It was fun trying to use the original iPod again! I didn't expect the hardest part to be getting music onto the iPod.

New iPad Pro looks neat! I still can't do my job or most of my hobbies from an iPad but it seems good for the people who can do that. https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/05/apple-unveils-stunning-new-ipad-pro-with-m4-chip-and-apple-pencil-pro/

Every publisher, blog, and newsletter not on Fediverse platforms is making a mistake. The simple fact that external links won’t punish you in the algorithm™️ here is so, so important.

The era of Apple slowly opening up its devices and playing nice with the competition has seemingly ended. Malicious compliance is now the name of the game. https://www.spacebar.news/mr-cook-tear-down-that-wall/

Spotlight on Mac is so great, especially with the ability to search for text inside documents (even text in Excel worksheets and other stuff). It’s one of those things macOS figured out years ago and Windows still hasn’t matched.

I wrote about everything wrong with Opera Browser and Opera GX, and why you should never use anything made by current-day Opera. (please boost for visibility!)

I've rolled out an update for ImageShare, my open-source image upload tool for low-end and legacy web browsers (originally designed for the 3DS web browser). There are new features and lots of improvements for self-hosting!

I made a working concept for an alt text generator browser extension using the GPT-4 API, it’s pretty cool! The low detail option in the API seems to work fine for this, so each processed image is less than $0.01 in API billing.

I’m not sure if this could be released on the Chrome Web Store because it would need an API key from the user to run. Maybe it would be better as a PWA anyway so it could be used on other platforms?

“There are only two demographics that are willing to pay for good software: corporations and video gamers. We’ve somehow blundered our way into a world where everyone else expects software to be free.” 👏 https://stackoverflow.blog/2023/12/25/is-software-getting-worse/

I’m not really a watch person outside of smartwatches, but I really like the Casio W-217H. It’s so light I forget it’s on my arm sometimes.

Only issue is that I had to replace the stock band because it kept pinching me, now I have a cool orange band. 😎

I just released an update for my Peek browser extension! It can now show previews for links to posts on Mastodon, Facebook, and Threads, in addition to the existing support for PDFs, Office documents, YouTube videos, and more.

There’s also a new pop-out button that opens the preview in a new pop-up window. The update is rolling out.

I know a lot of people still hold off on updates for a long time because they might break something, but that's increasingly not a good idea. Leave auto update on!

It’s wild that there’s still no social media tools for most of the Twitter replacements. Buffer has great native Mastodon support, and you can make Mastodon text posts work with IFTTT using Webhooks (which is what I’m doing for @thespacebar), but that’s pretty much it.

Bluesky, Threads, Post News, Substack Notes, etc all have basically nothing outside of very limited enterprise-level stuff or API scripts. I guess everyone’s waiting to see which ones aren’t a fad?
