Both sets of grandparents came to #Canada from #TheNetherlands shortly after WW2. My parents were both born here in #Ontario, and I live in #HamOnt (where a lot of the #Steenhof & #Turkstra clan still resides).

While most of my extended family are Evangelical/Fundamentalist, I am not part of that spiritual & intellectual dead end.

I write programs with code. That code is often #PHP and #JavaScript/, often leveraging #Laravel and #Vue.

One thing I don't understand is giving massively profitable corporations money to do things they don't want to do.

How about instead we just legislate that they have to do them? Why can't we do that? Have we entirely forgotten that the government also carries a big stick and not just an unlimited supply of carrots?

Bit of a shame that seems to be unmaintained. It's (or was, I guess) my favourite code coverage provider.

It looks like XDebug has improved a bunch in the meantime tho...

Folks have GOT to stop pretending is some kind of progressive paradise.

It is not.

We have the same compliment of bigots here as everywhere else, except they used to be a little quieter.

We're still driving headlong into neoliberal oblivion. Our institutions are being dismantled and sold off by Conservative premiers.

We are coasting on the fumes of our progressive/socialist past and without a course correction, we're going to crash just like everyone else.

I've been using the for about two years now.

I really like the low-profile design, the base is really solid, no connection issues, everything works as expected.

The only real problem with this thing is the keycaps. I just broke one by accidentally popping it off. They have these flimsy plastic clips that keep them in the place, and I just knew one would break sooner or later.

Also the black coating has started to wear off on common keys.

's first-class callable syntax is great, but it would be so much greater if it supported partial application.

Something like:

$this->method(param: 'foo', ...)

You know, I like a lot. But also I really hate it. It's a hard feeling to describe, because about 50% of the time writing TS feels fantastic, and then the other 50% of the time it feels shoving glass into my eyeballs.

One constant source of irritation for me with is the way works. It instantiates every command on every run in order to get the command configuration details. Which isn't usually a problem... until it is.

I really don't like the way JSON Resources work. I also really don't like the way Fractal works. I really don't like any of my attempts to solve my frustrations with any of these approaches works.

I dunno, maybe transforming domain objects into transmissible data is just a tough problem no matter how you slice it.

I love little nonsense tags that you add to your sentences to make them sound... I dunno, more intellectual or something?

"If you will"
"As it were"
"In a way"

So many of them fit that classic rhythm of buh-buh-buh.

One thing I'd love to see in PHP is auto get/set. Eg something like:

public Uuid $id { get; private set; }

For situations where I want public read/private write.

In the last , Ryan wrote:

"Crypto may have fizzled, but it did make some real money for certain people and, more importantly, connected and philosophically galvanized a group of tech workers that now just so happen to be sitting on a whole bunch of GPUs that are perfect for running AI models."

This is something I never would have thought of, but it speaks to the material conditions that enable this sort of thing. Money and hardware.
