I've found the happy space for using Docker in local development is to use it for external services such as databases, Redis etc (as I have to use different versions of e.g. MySQL or PostgreSQL), but use language-specific tools such as pyenv or nvm instead of running your project in a container.
So for example, for a Python/Django project I use pyenv, virtualenv etc, but I have a docker-compose file to launch Postgres/Redis pinned to whatever versions are running in production.
Running the Python app in a container though is a huge pain (although it's great for production deployment).
Sure would be horribly ironic if the US, arguably the greatest experiment in democracy ever attempted, suddenly flipped over, surrendered, and chose to become an authoritarian religious monarchy, not long after electing the first black president.
If your president is actively funding, arming, and supporting a genocide and you call him “a good person” and “a good president”, maybe it’s time to take a good, long look in the mirror and wonder where things went wrong for you and whether you can see a path back to reclaiming your humanity.
@aral the problem for decent Americans is that they don't live in a proper democracy, and have the choice between voting for a flawed president and continuing business-as-usual or choosing (either directly or by voting 3rd party or not at all) a full-throated fascist who will double down in support of Netanyahu, and quite possibly abolish whatever is left of US democracy entirely.
@aral I don't blame those who support Biden in that environment, because the alternative, as bad as the status quo is today, will be orders of magnitude far worse.
@aral it depends on why they are calling Biden good. Do they really believe it, or are they just trying to persuade some swing voters not to back Trump?
@Mogleg@aral Ronald Reagan, that well-known radical leftist, was tougher on Israel than Biden.
But that said, whether he is giving Israel a pass (other than symbolic hand-wringing) because he is a Zionist, or just because the Dems are incapable of taking a stand on anything that is not focus-grouped and both-sided and the media is in the tank for Netanyahu 🤷
I’d rather talk about video games and the Fediverse—which is stuff that gives me actual joy.
But I’m seeing so many lies and mistruths about Jews that it’s tearing my hair out. And the thing is, people who I don’t think are anti-Semitic believe them.
But I’m starting my to wonder if it’s worth giving the benefit of the doubt. It’s not worth debating anti-Semites because the “debate” is my existence.
a reality that socialist or progressive protestors must take into account is that disorder on the streets always works to the political advantage of fascists, who credibly promise order at all costs even while they cynically ensure protest becomes disorderly.
it’s not fair, but it is reality. in the ecstasy of genuine righteousness one may not give a fuck, but then a morning after comes.
@interfluidity the problem is that any peaceful protest can be turned into disorder with some planted agents provocateurs and arranged counter-protests
@e11bits@ghickman it's fine. I use it with pre-commit and my IDE and works ok, you can use"djlint:off" comments to keep the original formatting when it doesn't quite do what you want. Unlike prettier it doesn't mess up Django template syntax.
