I see people are dropping a lot of their favourite tracks today, as part of the celebration, and also the regular hashtag.

Seems like a pretty good idea, to me. Let's see how many I can get to before the day is out!

...And for anyone who isn't loving it: get yer mute on, folks, and don't fret. The next one's not for another fifty years!

Gaaah, I did a thing at work this week which was SO cool and I’d love to share pictures, but i can’t even tell anyone what it was! Agh!

Anyway it’s bloomin’ hard work but sometimes I really REALLY love my job. I’m very lucky.

And one day, once you all already know about it and have seen much better shots than mine, I’ll get to mention what on earth we did.

Wish more candidates had a presence here in the Fediverse. I don't particularly want to go back to Twitter, but I miss being able to so easily engage with them.

@simonvarwell Yes, I think I've got Patrick Harvie and then a couple of accounts which are just bots replicating the tweets of some others. Doesn't feel great in an election.

You know how we have a sort of unofficial set of standard measures for things in the news?

Height: double decker buses
Liquid volume: swimming pools
Area: tennis courts / Wales

...That kind of thing.

Does anyone else use 'Scottish Parliament buildings' as a news-related unit of measure for any government spending? Garden Bridge, Rwanda scheme, PPE contracts, Liz Truss' budget, Westminster refurb…

Is it just me who uses that one?

I've been trying (without much proper effort, I confess) to get a decent shot of a wave for years. This doesn't really capture the majesty of them yesterday, but it's not terrible. I shall keep trying.

One of my favourite windows, in one of my favourite staircases, for today's .

Some water has condensed inside a double glazing unit and then, through capillary action or repeated evaporation and condensation or I don't know exactly what processes, created these patterns between the glass panes of the windows.

This was in the Alte Pinakothek, in Munich. I saw it twice with nine years between instances, but I don't know if it's still there.

Some water which has formed into strange shapes and patterns between two panes of glass within a window.

I wonder what shape the economies of Scotland and rUK would have been in if there had been a diffferent result nine years ago. I winder what state our rights might be in, on either side of the border. Would Scotland have managed to stay in Europe? Would the rest of the UK?

I imagine many an editorial on such things this time next year. For now, it's interesting to see how little introspection the UK allows itself, most of the time.

I'd normally expect one of the louder members of the cabinet to have jumped up by now, and started decrying the senseless vandalism of whomever destroyed that beautiful, centuries-old, much-loved tree.

Perhaps they remember this, from a few years ago. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/aug/17/tree-of-the-week-the-beloved-250-year-old-wild-pear-being-cut-down-for-hs2

I'll admit it, for the first time I sort of miss Twitter this morning. I doubt you get the same kind of live discussion around debates or hearings there as you used to even six months ago, but I also can't pretend it wasn't occasionally brilliant.

So this morning I'm keeping an eye on liveblogging by the National (https://www.thenational.scot/news/23798008.live-scottish-uk-governments-court-gender-row/) and BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-66842504), and wishing one of them had hired Beth / Picklebee, whose coverage was so good through the previous debates.

I couldn't ever really get bored of starling photos.

Look at these, for instance, by Søren Solkær:

I subjected my father to endless justifications of the validity of hip hop as an art form. I played my Eric B. & Rakim records on the living room stereo as loud as I could possibly get away with. I know I drove him crazy.

I've always known my kids would do something similarly to me. I've been looking forward to finding out who they would choose to take me down. I did not expect...

I always hated just for its lack of hyperlinks. one of the most basic features of the . (And its misuse of the word 'tag', and filters, and image compression, but I guess those are other gripes for other days.)

I expect I won't be going back to any Meta apps at all, but I wonder: with its ability to finally include hyperlinks, will actually end up more popular than Instagram? I can see it being a lot more appealing for companies/creatives promoting their work.

Anyone else find themselves casually looking at the various Forth Bridges this week, to see what kind of protection their tower bases / piers might have?

I'm pretty sure the aircraft carriers only really go through with the guidance of tugs, and I know there's not really much of anything that could have stopped a panamax or even bigger vessel but, still, what with recent news, I can't help but wonder...

We moved into our neighbourhood in 2009 and, for most of the time we’ve been here, we have been regularly greeted by Jasper, who keeps an eye on the end of our road from his vantage point just above it.

I noticed a little plaque today where there had not been one before, and now I know why I haven’t seen him for a little while. It’s technically , but I hope this place won’t mind if today I observe , instead. He was a much-loved part of this place, and we all miss him.
