@KC8JC@kelvin0mql Are you aware of @n8gnj ‘s “Zero Retries” newsletter? It ticks many of these boxes. I’m hoping he moves off of Substack soon, then I could probably support him a bit…
A while back I asked about used thin clients as shack computers and running a Pi Hole + Home Assistant off of, and some folks had some great suggestions (including, I remember, Dell Wyse?).
And of course I didn't bookmark any of those suggestions. Would folks mind re-suggesting?*
The HP T530s I bought for $10 a piece are very fickle about SSD compatibility and I'm tired of throwing money at that problem.
@Geojoek@thebaldgeek there are heaps of Lenovo ThinkCentre boxes on eBay. I have an M710q tiny that has both an SSD and an M.2 NVMe and seems to work quite well. I haven’t measured its idle power consumption though.
Watching The Diplomat for the third time, and 33:10 into Ep5 is still my favorite scene among many great ones. It’s a good reminder for me and for many of the managers I’ve managed and mentored. (Can’t post the snippet I recorded; just watch and note this scene.)
@lorihc such a great show and scene. I still really want to review every pull request in my org even though I know it’s not (usually) the right use of my time.
It's been a very difficult and stressful year that almost broke me multiple times, but there were good bits too: I got married, visited the @yogscast office, saw The Dear Hunter live, got into analog photography, and adopted two very silly cats.
I like & get value from Goodreads, and have many connections there that I value. I'm also a fan of the #SocialWeb / #fediverse and believe in open protocols and data portability. I've optimistically setup a #BookWyrm account here: https://sfba.club/user/dcreemer . Reading is visible to followers only for now.
Is there any general advice on cross-posting from (e.g.) #PixelFed or #BookWyrm to #mastodon ? I know that if folks are interested specifically in my photos they could follow my pixelfed account, but I do see a lot of pictures posted here (and I like to see pictures here). #fediverse#question
I feel that the people at #AWS that invented ODCRs for EC2 forgot what the acronyms mean.
On Demand Capacity Reservation for an Elastic Compute Cloud resource.
So now I need to pre-reserve my “on demand” capacity for my “elastic” cloud. How is this any better than just buying on-premise hardware? #amazon#cloud#EC2
