@halfy actually, choosing the right ISA here is the whole ARC from Alpha to omega! It's a Loong shot, but you MIPS just SPARC an instance ISA revolution, as RISC-V as it sounds!

I’ve been thinking a lot about impermanence recently. About the vast scales of time of human history. How temporary it all is.

I imagine that the Romans once looked around at the sheer splendour of their civilisation, the technical advances and discoveries, the majesty of the great colosseums, and thought to themselves ‘this will live forever.’

I have to imagine that so to did the Egyptians as they looked upon the great pyramids of Giza or the Temple of Hatshepsut. The great Pharoahs buried in their golden sarcophagi for eternal posterity, their tomb looted within a few years by desperate thieves.

I imagine they consulted their historians, marvelled at the journey their peoples had been on, and how much smarter they were than those who had come before.

I wonder if we’re just like them, now. How would we know? Every civilisation, even those which lasted thousands of years, was unable to understand its own collapse even as they saw it with their own eyes.

@swarming That is one way to look at it. But, is the Roman empire truly "dead"? The principiles, the sciences, the law of the roman empire lives on until today. You're looking at the lost, at the impermanent, at the power of a few people. But if you look at the whole, at the ever improving and changing humanity, is anything ever truly gone?

Huh, the docs for OpenSSL::HMAC.hexdigest doesn't specify what the format of the key parameter is, appears to just be a string, but doesn't explain how it's used?

@fleckenstein @ellie Yes, but free Neutrons not bound into a nucleus decay into a proton and an electron with a half-life of about 10 minutes.
So protons really are the default state of (most) baryons and also this implies that a he/him removed from any peer pressure and left to his own devices has a good chance to become a they/them and a she/her. :blobcatgooglytrash:

Nachdem gefühlt immer mehr Leute über Rasierhobel (bzw. "safety razors") reden, hab ich das jetzt auch mal ausprobiert.

Ausschlaggebend für mich war https://www.selfawaresoup.com/notes/2023/10/14/safety-razors/ von @esther. Für "mal ausprobieren" waren mir die "guten" Griffe ein bisschen teuer, aber dm hat ein Einstiegs-Set von Gillette für nur 15€: https://www.dm.de/king-c-gillette-rasierhobel-double-edge-p7702018544677.html

Erste Rasur hat ne halbe Stunde (nur Bart!) gedauert, ist aber glatter und sanfter. Nach ner Woche testen kann ich sagen: Ich bleib dabei.
