@danderson yeah, i have one single smart bulb from them for my standing lamp, and twice, the sleep routines have stopped working out of nowhere, i complain on the forums. Their people tell me to try removing it and reconnecting it to the app (nope), then mysteriously, a few days later it just starts working again. Like someone fixed something in the backend that they broke. 🤔 Would prefer something that isn't cloud-connected, but those options cost more + I'd have to finally set up homeassist

Is it just me, or is the amount of “unknown callers” increasing exponentially.

PRO TIP: many phones have a setting called “Silence Unknown Callers” buried under Settings. Turn it to “On.

@autism101 @actuallyautistic i usually keep mine on do not disturb, but with starred callers and repeat callers allowed. Starred =family (that i trust not to call at work hours/when I'm at work unless it's an emergency), repeat callers =probably them, but they don't have their phone or phone is dead, because who the fuck else is going to be calling me more then once in a 15 minute period?

Most notifications silent, too, things like alarms/event reminders are allowed to make noise.

Just bonked a number of accounts here on neovibe that were almost entirely Vietnamese betting site accounts. Probably were waiting some amount of time before spamming, as none had posted anything, but icons and descriptions were for the betting sites (thank you "translate web page" Firefox addon).

Still a handful of sus looking newer accounts, but they haven't done anything yet to deserve the banhammer.

@Schrank you're missing an intermediate certificate (or the domain owner is, if that's not your website). GlobalSign's website says to run a health check on the domain to find out what intermediate cert is required.

Ai image generation is one of my guilty pleasures. I'd never use the images in my own works... but it's so fun to have something in your head and instantly see it created for you.

I could see Ai image generation fitting into my workflow as a way to give actual artists ideas of what's in my head.

@heiglandreas i mean, that starter toner usually will last you literal years if you're doing typical amounts of home printing. Maybe not if you're printing like 500+ pages per month, but even then the toner is still going to be cheaper in the long run than any cheap inkjet. And you don't have to worry about the toner drying out if you don't print frequently.

@qkslvrwolf i had some similar issues with my mom's phone, in being unable to uninstall apps that were installed from, but no longer available on the Galaxy store. So i enabled developer mode and used ADB to nuke 'em.

and platform-tools from google to get ADB: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-windows.zip

I'd say if you're not exactly sure what the package is, try just disabling it first and making sure your phone works as you expect before you delete it for good. Their list of Samsung apps doesn't really explain what they are and only some are obvious by their package names.

Looks like it might also might not work if unrooted and OEM has restricted removing system apps.

Is there an android app for mastodon that includes the ability to handle my instance's report queue? I've accepted an invitation to become a moderator on my instance, but I'm almost always reading on my phone.

I know Tusky doesn't include moderation tools and doesn't intend to (it's what I've been using so far). Or am i just doomed to using a web browser for this?

I'm still doing this mental tug-of-war on whether to defed Threads or not. On one hand, I could leave it to each individual to block the instance.. or I could make it required (which kinda feels bad to force it on people).

@mikey i think one of the big concerns as well has been whether or not Meta is going to use federated data to link people to things they've been keeping separate from the big players for a reason, whether they'll use our data for ai training/ad profiling/etc, and whether they're trying to pull an "embrace, extend, extinguish" maneuver. Will smaller instances like ours be subject to the whims of Meta's nsfw policies lest they be defederated by Meta?

@mikey is there something weird going on? I seem to have a lot fewer images loading in my timelines... Like, it'll show the alt text, and if i tap through, it pulls up the image just fine in my browser. Even more weirdly, it's not all images. As far as i can tell the local timeline is the only one unaffected.

@mikey @repeattofade @yesjohn so if I'm understanding the situation correctly: the issue is that generally in the fediverse, federated data is used just for showing your posts to people on that server, but with Threads, there's a possibility (high probability?) that Meta is also going to use your federated data for their shady data brokering shit that they already do with their FB/Insta/Threads users?

    People here who make music: where do you post it, if anywhere?

    I've been assuming Mastodon is a good place -- I am wondering if it's not.

    I have used SoundCloud and I don't like it -- it's full of spambots and pushes me hard towards monetization tools.

    I posted my last album to Itch, where I am very sure not many people saw it. (https://nyeogmi.itch.io/happy-universe)

    I kind of suspect "having my music noticed by people" may be a doomed endeavor -- there's a lot of good music on the internet and music in general is treated as having zero value.

    But I would like to keep trying, because I really enjoy the feeling of creating art that is appreciated!
