💾 NEW PODCAST!💾 Can you believe we're 90 episodes into this show and still haven't done Lemmings??

Lemmings (DMA Design / Psygnosis, 1991) was a massive hit, allegedly selling over 15M copies over the span of its lifetime on various platforms.

And those were many platforms indeed! There's barely a system out there which doesn't have a version of Lemmings.

But we of course focus on the DOS port, which still holds up well even today.

💾 NEW PODCAST! 💾 Back in November we took a look at Karateka, the first published game by @jmechner

This game made a lot of waves back when it was first released in 1984 and in a lot of ways is a precursor to the later Prince of Persia.

So check it out!

One of the reasons we scheduled this game now is because in late 2023 "The Making of Karateka" was released by @DigitalEclipse

So we couldn't be more excited about the fact we were joined by editorial director Chris Kohler on this episode, who has a wealth of knowledge about this game he was willing to share with us.

@dosgameclub@dosgame.club avatar

Besides Chris, we're also excited about DGC-member DRS joining us for this one. As a long-time member of our forums, this is the first time he's appeared on the podcast!

If you're into this DOS gaming thing we're doing, you can join us over at https://www.dosgameclub.com where we have forums to discuss all the games.

We're also active on IRC network AfterNet, where we have a channel called

And last but not least if you want to support us financially, you can donate over at: https://ko-fi.com/dosgameclub - we use this money to keep both our podcast website as well as this Mastodon instance online!

In our upcoming podcast on @jmechner's Karateka we talk a lot about versions of the game for different platforms, but of course we're not forgetting the DOS port!

💾 NEW PODCAST💾 Do you like first-person shooters? But also like point & click adventure games? Lots of FMV cutscenes? A haunted mansion? Magic? Ghosts? Inter-dimensional portals?

REALMS OF THE HAUNTING (1996, Gremlin/Interplay) checks all these boxes, and much more!

New month, new game! In February we'll be playing EMPIRE, the classic turn-based strategy game that started it all.

Originally developed in the 1970s for the PDP-10 by Walter Bright, this is one of the earliest examples of turn-based strategy computer games.

It was ported to various platforms throughout the years, with the most notable DOS versions being "Empire - Wargame of the Century" (1987) and "Empire Deluxe" (1993)

Share your thoughts on https://www.dosgameclub.com

"Which version will we cover?" you ask.

ALL THE VERSIONS!

They're all pretty similar gameplay-wise, so choose which ever one you fancy :)

@dosgameclub@dosgame.club avatar

If you want to dive into the history of this game, original author Walter Bright put up a website in 1997 with a lot of resources, which is still available: https://www.classicempire.com/

We have just moved our podcast and community site (https://www.dosgameclub.com) over to the new server that the Mastodon instance is running on already.

Expect a ridiculous speed boost for the forums and podcast downloads.

It may take an hour or so until all your DNS are updated.

Please be patient with us as we iron out the remaining problems and report any issues you find with the new site.

💾 NEW PODCAST!💾 A while ago we looked at The Secret of Donkey Island (yes with a D).

This 1994 parody game made by two teenagers from Czech Republic became a surprise local hit. Now, almost 30 years later, an English translation has been made and it's available for free!

If that's not a great reason to check this out now, we don't know what is.

https://www.dosgameclub.com/donkey-island/

dosgameclub,
@dosgameclub@dosgame.club avatar

Joining @Tijn is club member @yozy (who is from Czechia himself) as well as the team who put the English translation togther: @emmxyzzy and @sonneveld

Sadly our regular co-host @rnlf couldn't make the recording, but he did help us out by editing the episode.

Thanks to all who make our podcast possible!
