@mattgemmell Do you use version control for your books? I'm reading a book about git and they are using scenarios about writing a book as examples. Just curious.

@mattgemmell Makes sense! why deal with git if you have other easier backup methods.

That Ulysses backup looks really great!

I have Scrivener on macOS and just realized that is keeping backups too. There doesn't seem to be an interval available, but there's a bunch of options.

“Fun” macOS scare. Set up TimeMachine for the first time on a MBP 16" Formatted a drive as APFS created two volumes one for TM & the other for a future clone.

Somehow ended up IN the tiered TM interface while it was running, but it wouldn't respond to the red X, or Cancel button. Waited a while, after it went to sleep the TM interface was still there but empty AND unresponsive.🤦🏻‍♂️

Finally unplugged the drive, held down the power button and it's back. Was there a better option?

So my sewer pipe (which has been an endless source of fun, let me tell you), runs through the power company's land and whoever cut their grass the other day was clearly daydreaming and mowed right over the pipe AND the bright orange fiberglass stick that was marking its location.

@GeekAndDad There is a good tip here though - I know where one of the clean-outs is and can easily dig that up (my picture was really good there) I could investigate that to see if there IS any sort of metal added to help find it. I always thought it was just PVC but maybe not.

@GeekAndDad I doubt it - the line must have 8x 22.5 degree angles to get out to the road. I probably just need to dig more. My picture does give me some clue where the clean out is.

For now I’ve started the enzyme cleaner maintainer again. Maybe @bigzaphod should be doing that too - it sounds like he has a long sewer run too.

1PW8 showed up in my family due to an auto-update. Do you have a list of reasons why not to upgrade? I was thinking of trying it. Since it’s not on the MAS there’s no reviews.

@cocoaphony @jsq Yeah - support will end someday. We're all paying a subscription, so it would seem like they'd have to weigh how many would give up. I can't imagine living without 1Password.

I have some quibbles about the password picker, but I'm starting to realize that those might be better in 1PW8

I sorted the 1PW7 reviews on the MAS by date and find lots of people complaining. Some stuff I think is website issues, and/or weird gripes that don't makes sense. Maybe I'll just have to try it.

If you put your Xcode project in a folder that already has a .git repo in it - you likely will be doing commits to not where you think you are. 😱🤦🏻‍♂️

Kid had a cheap little desk fan that charges with USB-C. He forgot it in back of the car for like... 6 months. After he found it he tried to make it work and it seemed to not work anymore. We figured the battery was probably toast or something.

So he took it apart and poked at with with a multimeter. And he couldn't figure anything out. So he brings it out to me. And I plugged in a random USB-C cable on my desk just to check assumptions and it worked.

So now we're like.. wtf?

During her presentation at @DeepDishSwift my jaw hit the floor when Kim Arnett said that not supporting landscape in your app could be an accessibility problem.

I started taking some baby steps towards supporting landscape mode in Please Don't Rain.

Edit: Fixed the background color not extending fully to the left and right by adding .edgesIgnoringSafeArea(.all) to the Color in my .background modifier.

I'm researching the growth of ebikes ...

... in cities around the US

I've talked to many people who love them!

But also want to include the perspective of folks who have concerns ...

... i.e. about the speed and weight of ebikes in accidents with pedestrians or other cyclists, and the like

@clive I don't see any issue with the speed. I routinely saw people on non-ebikes going just as fast next to pedestrians before. I'm not convinced the weight matters either.

One detail that people might not be ready for is that bike batteries are not meant to be left in cold temperatures - and at least some batteries are not easy to remove.
Options:

  1. Buy a bike with easily removable (& lockable) battery.
    2a) Degrade your battery in the cold.
    2b) Find a way to store your bike inside.
