“Fun” macOS scare. Set up TimeMachine for the first time on a MBP 16" Formatted a drive as APFS created two volumes one for TM & the other for a future clone.
Somehow ended up IN the tiered TM interface while it was running, but it wouldn't respond to the red X, or Cancel button. Waited a while, after it went to sleep the TM interface was still there but empty AND unresponsive.🤦🏻♂️
Finally unplugged the drive, held down the power button and it's back. Was there a better option?
Anybody out there use #MacOSSonoma? Can you explain to me why it steadfastly refuses to copy some images? All I get is some text indicating which app the image would have come out of? It's infuriating.
So I decided to upgrade to #macOSSonoma to see if the neural Siri voices can be used with Voiceover like in Monterey and sure enough they are. But now I'm having an issue where Samantha compact is speaking rather than my Siri voice and it's at a very high speed. How do I fix this? I should point out that it's random when Samantha compact comes on.
When you switch between virtual desktops in Sonoma while having icons on the desktop disabled, they flash for a split second mid-animation (watch the right side of the screen).
I wait for the first point releases of new software to make sure large bugs get worked out. This has not worked out for me with macOS Sonoma. I won't get into quirky UX things they should know better about doing. My big beef is that the networking seems to bork itself when switching profiles. Safari still works but nothing, not even App Store or Test Flight, can connect to the internet again until I reboot the machine. WTF Apple? This is a major workflow for me that is now essentially broken. Makes me want to just keep this around for Apple development and finally jump to a Linux laptop #linux#apple#macos#MacOsSonoma
#Chrome (or #macOSSonoma - not sure who is to blame) has a dope new feature where you close a tab (cmd - w) and it will close the entire window instead (& all sibling tabs). If you spot it's done this you can re-open them with a shortcut but if you don't then it won't record this in your history and so they're gone forever. Makes a strategy of "I'll leave that open for later" pretty risky. Fun.
I don’t know what’s up, but Sonoma has absolutely destroyed my Air’s performance. I have 5 tabs in Safari open, with Xcode in the background, and it lags so bad it takes five seconds to switch to another tab!
Also, I have noticed that right-clicking with the trackpad does this weird double-click sometimes.
I tried playing Minecraft before, and it went from an average of 200 FPS in Ventura to 75 in Sonoma! What the hell!
#macOSSonoma has a feature where you click on the desktop, somewhere that isn’t covered by windows (next to the Dock, say), which invokes Exposé’s ‘show desktop’ thing (all windows fly to the corners). Simple and straightforward, and useful on its surface.
But, it turns out, incompatible with my muscle memory: I often click on the desktop to say “lose focus from the current app”, e.g. when I don’t want to accidentally send an e-mail, but still want to look at it (so Hide wouldn’t work).
the funniest thing about Apple is the last version of MacOS features "video reactions" where if your camera sees you do a thumbs up or heart symbol with your hands, stuff happens behind you like fireworks in ANY video app you are using BY DEFAULT.
A friend was in an online therapy session, describing his trauma so the therapist asked if he was alright and he did a thumbs up and then HUGE FIREWORKS BEHIND HIS HEAD.
It's so bad that online therapy sessions now start with a warning dialog!
DEVONthink 3.9.4 is now available. The update mainly provides bugfixes for macOS Sonoma. However, we also fixed an important issue with the OCR and imprinting AppleScript commands not working. And we made some refinements to sync, especially concerning iCloud syncs. #devonthink#macossonoma#sonoma#applescript#update#pkm
If you don't know what you're looking at: For a while, macOS has been able to automatically fill security codes sent via SMS into web forms. But with Sonoma, it can now also automatically delete those messages after the auto-fill.
(This assumes you set up your iPhone to relay SMS to your Mac in Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding)
Both parts of this feature are glorious and I love them.
Since updating to macOS 14, I can not longer read my smart card. I am using opensc-tool (0.23), the reader(s) are found, but the card is not.
Does anyone have an idea? Please #boost for reach!
Missed opportunity for #macOSSonoma: better focus-stealing controls
The upgrade went quite smoothly, but I don’t love how often (and how slowly) auto-resumed apps had windows appear on top of each other. This feels like a problem macOS should’ve solved 20 years ago.
My Safari is completely broken in Sonoma. Randomly, it shows this „website is too busy“ error and nothing helps apart from restarting the entire machine. My internet works fine… :(
So does #macOSSonoma’s slow-mo-to-desktop feature have a bunch of fixed frames from the videos that it will slow down to, or can it end at literally any frame (some of which might not be so picturesque)?
Flawless unsupervised process with zero interventions (as usual).
Loving the vineyard wallpaper already. Not sure what new features will be significant for me. I do most of my work on my five year old #iPadPro anyway (it does have a #MagicKeyboard with trackpad attached).
It seems the answer to “how much space does setting #macOSSonoma’s screen saver to ‘shuffle all aerials’ take up?” is 32.1 GB. The assets are stored in /Library/Application Support/com.apple.idleassetsd/Customer/4KSDR240FPS, because… obviously.
Oh my, macOS Sonoma is utterly unstable and full of bugs. I run it on a MBP M1 and it crashes multiple times a day. On restart, it does not recognize my external display, have to re-plug it to work.
Same goes for Safari 17. When I close pinned tabs, the tab in the title bar stays and cannot be removed until Safari is restarted.
iCloud Drive sync is super unstable and it takes minutes to sync small files.
I'm interested about your experience, if you have already upgraded.
