Finished painting Dr. Ian Malcolm (lounging), which is a promo for Restoration Games’ Unmatched that I got as a bonus when I bought the Cobble & Fog base set at 2023.
Simple but a lot of fun. Turns out that subtle chest hair is a challenge to paint!

So, how should I continue my "catching up on the MCU" project? I've watched No Way Home yesterday and seen every movie leading up to it.

Should I simply continue with the next movie, or squeeze a series in? I've already seen WandaVision and liked it a lot.

@scy Not necessarily. As I understand it, Netflix’s Daredevil isn’t canonically the same universe as the MCU. So, yes, you’ll find some of the actors from that show making their initial appearances in the MCU through Hawkeye, but the Netflix show doesn’t tell you who these people are. Not directly.

On one level I can see why the Baltimore Bridge accident is newsworthy.... the video is oddly compelling & lives were lost.

But, should an accident in Baltmore really be global news - leading on the evening news tonight (and on the top of the FT web-page with a full 'explainer')?

Its the usual case of if it happens in America its news....

Or perhaps wherever a container ship hit a bridge with good video it would be a lead time on the news... maybe not so much.

@ChrisMayLA6 I mean, it does impact the global economy. Something like $3bn of trade moves through that port every year, and now the port is basically closed off for at least the near future.

@drahardja SCOTUS hasn’t made a ruling on the law itself. Hasn’t even heard arguments yet. The appeal hasn’t even gotten to the point of a request for certorari. What SCOTUS has decided is not to grant an emergency stay that would prevent implementation of the law while the legal challenge progresses.

I've had to turn on the air conditioning in Virginia in January because it's gotten up to 75 degrees in the house. This is summer heat only days after the coldest days of the winter.

Ugh. That Humble Bundle for Discworld is fulfilled entirely by Kobo. In other words, you don't get to download EPUB files and use them however you choose; you have to use the Kobo app, which can go away any time.

This isn't the first time I've been burned by this, but it is the last time I get an ebook bundle through Humble.

    @frederic You can find a mouse jiggler on Amazon for $10-15 that helps with this. (I don’t mean the physical mouse shaker. That’s unnecessary. These are a simple USB “mouse” that only moves the cursor left and right 1 pixel every minute.)
    It’s one of the most reliable ways I’ve had to make sure a device doesn’t fall asleep when I have it doing something long running like that.

    @frederic That's kinda the nuclear option. Works, but so easy to forget to change settings back.
    On Macs, you can use an command line program called caffeine that will help keep your device awake so long as it's running. That's a neat trick too.

    @grumpygamer I expect a fifth option: does nothing and the industry reacts. The average consumer will forget, but dev studios are going to make business decisions. I don't expect Unity will realize until quarters from now that they're losing market share to their customers. In the near term, the pricing model is built to favor Unity so it's going to look successful.

    @grumpygamer Good timing. Last year saw a lot of steep competition in the Fog space. I think you're smart to get in after the initial buzz around Fogs has had a chance to cool off.

    Ok, is over. Who’s thinking of going to ? It’s in Philadelphia, which isn’t far (relatively speaking) from me. I’m thinking of going for a day or two (maybe just a day trip) to keep the cost manageable.

    @nukehavoc Maybe it’s changed since I last went in like 2018 and YMMV etc etc. Maybe I’ll warm to it somewhat more when my son (just now 3) gets older as Philly is a bit easier travel for us than Indy.

    @nukehavoc @gpage That was a more engaging experience than Gen Con. At GC, you have to commit - either get out of the aisle and the flow of traffic to look closer at a booth or keep moving.

    PAXU had more space per vendor, so it was easier to aimlessly browse and interact with vendors. Getting ad hoc demos right there was more of a thing, so I did get to try out a few new games that I otherwise might not have done.

    But I do wish I'd done more prep vis-a-vis events before going.

    @emarktaylor @wwc The offside rule is explicit on this point: “The hands and arms of all players, including the goalkeepers, are not considered. For the purposes of determining offside, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit.”
