Get ready to move your body to "So Many Men" by @luka, because this cover/remix/update of the 1983 disco classic is a straight banger. The original's distinctive main motif is there in all its glory, accompanied by a torrent of relentlessly upbeat synths and percussion updating the original to a slice of housey neodisco dancefloor nirvana.

With its laidback vocals, generally woozy atmosphere and relaxed beats, "I Had a Dream About a Murder" from @MattKollock puts me in mind of late 90s alt pop acts like Mercury Rev or a lowkey Flaming Lips. (A more contemporary comparison might be Mac Demarco or Kurt Vile.) He has the passion for this weirdo singer-songwriter niche, along with the requisite cleverness to pull it off.

Ok. Finally ran out of space in my cases. Do I buy a 4U pallet for my desk or go with a Ether v2 and/or RoAT? The two Soma products seem fun and interesting which will give me something new to use immediately, whereas getting more space will just give me the ability to possibly move stuff around and get GAS for more modules. Any thoughts?

@HRTerror Ether is a wonderful tool, but very much a niche item. RoAT might scratch the itch. I definitely think you should sit with a filled case for a while before expanding.

Elements of shoegaze, downtempo and indie rock swirl and fuse on "Breathe Out (Unseen Balance)" by @pierrotechnique, the lead song from his recent release. Woozy and mysteriously inviting, flecked through with interesting tones and sounds, buoyed by its omnipresent bassline and topped with an intimate vocal that breaks down into wordless murmurs at times.

Got a weird little situation at home right now... A light that turns itself on. Our back bedroom/guest bedroom/second TV room has developed the habit, somehow, of turning on the lights. When no one is there. Or even on that floor.

Now this house was worked on electrically by some enthusiastic amateur "electricians" at some point, and if the light was coming on with the switch in the off position, I wouldn't think anything of it... but the switch is up. It was left down.

How?

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

Let me state up front, I do not believe in ghosts, at least not in the sense of " a non corporeal being that can act upon the physical world." So I am not thinking it's a ghost. My daughter and I actually spent 15 minutes searching every place in our basement where someone could hide. (And we have two high strung dogs that would ABSOLUTELY lose their shit if there was someone in the house.) My dog isn't quite tall enough to hit the switch (and he was locked in the room with me the last time.)

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

The cat could maybe, maybe reach it by standing on a table nearby and reaching out to turn it on, but ... why?

Any other ideas? Especially those rooted in science as generally understood? (Though, fuck it, throw out your wildest theory if you have one.)

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

At this point I am ready to believe I am experiencing fugue states where I go back there and turn it on for some reason...

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@WizardOfWor there's a chest freezer nearby that is possibly on the same circuit, so it could be as simple as that

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@KayseeColorado yeah, I'm thinking replacing the switch might be the nest logical step. Takes twenty minutes and costs maybe $5, so definitely seems worth a try.

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@mykie def what I am thinking of trying. we'll save the exorcist for further down the line.

If you're interested in new material from the nexus of blues and rock, @randulo would like a word. His "The Woman in White" is a tight, smart take on blues rock, tackling one of the genre's classic tropes: drug addiction. Tight, expressive playing, tasteful solos that never go on too long and a lithe arrangement all work in the song's favor. Definitely worth a listen for blues and old-school rock fans.

I had this double-LP arrive some weeks back. It's 'Onwards System' by Cell, which is psychedelic/downtempo. I think it was the first vinyl that Ultimae released in white, but there's also a black version. It's also 180g. Very relaxing album.

Back cover of Cell's new album, 'Onwards System'. The artwork looks similar to that of an x-ray.
The inner sleeve of Cell's new album, 'Onwards System'. The artwork looks similar to that of an x-ray.
The two vinyl records of Cell's new album, 'Onwards System'. They are both pure white.

Hey and ! Since this coming is the last one for a while, I am going to be doing some writeups for it. If you have a or two you want me to check out, say some nice things about, and post for all my followers, send me a link. You can just reply to this post for easy reference.

@jaypeach00 yeah, you really have to drive traffic to BC. It's more like an outlet/store/fanclub than a social media site.

Recommendations, please, for fedizens who make electronic music.

(Probably dance/trance, but interested to hear what comes up).

I am expecting to pay for downloads, and licensing preferred.

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@neil my own music is more dance music adjacent, but it's very electronic.

https://etherdiver.bandcamp.com

I use standard copyright/licensing, but you have absolute permission to share the files with anyone you think will like them. You just can't use it in your video/podcast/etc without permission. (Permission I will GLADLY give if you ask. But you have to ask. I just like to have some control over what context it appears in.)

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@neil even If my music isn't quite to your taste, I'm probably a pretty good follow. I try to check out and write about at least a dozen other bands every month. All genres. (Retired music journalist who likes using my skills to help get the word out about smaller, independent musicians.)

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@neil this is a great thread. Found half a dozen new followed myself.
