Kansas Is About to Pass the Most Extreme Age Verification Law Yet (www.404media.co)

An age verification bill in Kansas that is the most extreme in the country has passed both House and Senate and is on its way to the governor’s desk. The bill will make sites with more than 25 percent adult content liable to heavy fines if they don’t verify that visitors are over the age of 18. It also calls being gay...

flames5123,

How will verification be done? Are they making the websites foot the bill for verification, which pornhub is super against, or are they going to make a centralized device verification, like how Louisiana did, allowing its residents to access pornhub again?

How is the 25% decided? Public content or private, like a Dropbox system? 25% by file size, length (how are pictures counted here), or just per item (would a gallery or picture be the item here)?

These legislatures know NOTHING about technology and how it all works and are just doing this for censorship and LGBTQ+ discrimination.

flames5123,

If it’s made in flutter, doesn’t that mean you easily publish it to the iOS App Store? Isn’t the main point of flutter to publish to both iOS and Android?

flames5123,

And RCV (ranked choice voting) isn’t really that much better. It has potential to be better if everyone voted honestly, but voting is a game.

STAR (score then automatic runoff) is the best we can feasibly achieve. It’s easy to teach and our current voting systems can account for this with little to no update (unlike RCV). Please look into star and push for this locally, then we can get this on a state by state basis.

flames5123,

Yea I was about to say. I play games that stay around 120 on my hardware and dip to maybe 80 sometimes. It’s not that noticeable, especially during action and if the dips aren’t super sudden drops. But 45-60 is noticeable.

flames5123,

The fun thing about FFXIV is that it’s free to play up to level 70. You’re only gonna be missing the last 2 expansions and then the one this summer. So you get 1/2 at no actual cost to you.

You only put in as much time as you want to get out too. There’s no real downside to taking longer beside things not being “relevant” anymore.

flames5123,

Combat doesn’t really get good until level 80. It’s such a slow burn. But the reason you need to do the 24 man raids is because it’s super important for the later story. It’s the only time they make you do an alliance raid. They don’t make you do any thing except dungeons and trials afterwards, which 99% can be done with their AI.

Luckily, the raids have a lot of people all the time and they’re so easy with maxed out level 50 stats.

flames5123,

What a great person that says this. Their animals happiness means a lot to them.

flames5123,

Like, even making $200k, comprehending 10% of that income is $20k. That’s poverty. But if you’re making $200M, just 0.1% of that is $200k. That’s not poverty. Why are they making 1% of me? It can be the system… /s

There is no awareness with the upper elite.

Digital artist here, need help deciding on a beefy machine config, but i'm a little rusty on the IT side of things. (lemmy.world)

So, my budget is 3KGBP, my use case is i do 3d modelling work (have done for 25years now), and would like a better machine that i can do (light) GPU render tests on. It will likely also do short (few days) runs of CPU rendering too....

flames5123,

I have moved so far away from intel. You need a big cooler and they still use more power. You can get more performance with AMD while using less power.

It’s been 4 years since I built my last one, but I still think it holds true.

I haven’t experienced any issue with my AMD in the last 4 years. I don’t think it’s an issue anymore. A CPU is a CPU and your OS should tell the CPU what to do.

flames5123,

I haven’t. Just intense gaming, coding, and some 2D game design. But I feel like that’s very outdated to have plugins in windows that don’t work with any CPU.

flames5123,

Yep. I setup sonarr, radarr, jackett, overseerr, and whatever the autounzipper is last year when netflix nixed password sharing and haven’t looked back. Streaming stuff is as easy as just adding something to my plex watch list. Sometimes it misses it, so I have to manually add it, but it’s not even that hard. It works for my older parents too.

flames5123,

You can’t turn off Canadian ones. I went to a music fest just over the border of Canada last year, and my phone would randomly go off every few hours because my phone would pick an American tower then swap back to a Canadian tower and sense me as “new to the area” or whatever. I can turn off American amber alerts.

This is on iPhone btw.

flames5123,

It feels like most “fancy” restaurants I go to in Seattle have chefs with tats. It’s pretty much the norm here.

Lyft and Uber say they will leave Minneapolis after city council forces them to pay drivers more (apnews.com)

Lyft and Uber said they will cease operations in Minneapolis after the city’s council voted Thursday to override a mayoral veto and require that ride-hailing services increase driver wages to the equivalent of the local minimum wage of $15.57 an hour....

flames5123,

Like, in Seattle, I’m taking Lyfts and Ubers for ~$35 for a 20 minute drive. They could pay their driver $16 to cover the minimum wage for the full hour and then they still have OVER 50% of what I pay. Like, it’s such simple business economics. Why can’t these big corporations figure it out? I hope they get taken over by local services that actually pay their workers.

flames5123,

Do you not know how to properly search in discord? Sure forums are better but a message in discord isn’t “gone forever” if you’re searching. It’s a pretty fast to search too, which is an insanely impressive feat due to the sheer amount of messages.

Dirty clothes & dead kids (sh.itjust.works)

alt-text: there’s laundry to do and a genocide to stop. I have to eat better and also avoid a plague. my rent went up $150. I’ll need to pick up more shifts. Twenty people died in Rafah this morning and every major news outlet is stretching the limits of passive voice to suggest whole families may have leaped up through the...

flames5123,

Right? Sure, Biden is a milquetoast, but he’s not spilling hate speech or mandating violence on minorities. Sure he’s complicit in the genocide, but there’s nothing he can really do.

flames5123,

We need STAR voting more. Ranked choice voting is only marginally better than first past the post.

flames5123,

Sure! It’s also called approval voting. But the key is it’s called STAR: score then automatic runoff. You rank any of the candidates from 0 to 5. If you don’t rank them, it’s a 0. Then you total all the scores and the highest score wins.

More info here: www.starvoting.org

The cool thing about STAR is that I can rank some people a 1 saying “they’re better than nothing!” While voting for my favorites with 5’s. The highest score wins, so the most approved by most people wins.

flames5123,

Most credit card companies provide free monthly checks to your credit so you don’t even need the yearly free checks. I just opened another line of credit and got a notification from discover 2 days later and email from them and capital one. It’s an included service that you should take advantage of.

flames5123,

I’m in Seattle, and cell service was out too. However, I do have a southern number. That couldn’t be it, could it?

flames5123,

And he was very fit and worked in his self image way more than most people that live with their parents in their 20’s.

flames5123,

I get the appeal, I just hate that I can’t cast them to my TV normally. I can watch shorts on the TV, but I have to disconnect the devices (phones). I can watch it on my phone, but I have to disconnect from the TV, ending the queue. BUT I can watch them on my phone the look into my history and cast them as a normal video. WHY IS THIS PROCESS EVEN THERE IF THERE CAN BE A NORMAL FUCKING VIDEO???

I’m just so tired of the stupid shit.

flames5123,

Which cities? People living in cities actually have a less carbon footprints. We get to use public transit. We buy local. We don’t go to chain restaurants when going out. Farmer markets may be a little more expensive, but they are vastly better quality. I can walk and grab a beer. There are parks everywhere that are public, unlike the yards and country clubs of suburbs. My dog is allowed most everywhere and loves coming out with us.

Cities are awesome.

flames5123,

Come on. That’s not even close to the amount of data that TikTok collects. TikTok needs to know how long you spend on EVERY video so it can recommend more like that. TikTok records EVERY interaction and time associated.

Utah governor says school board member who questioned a student's gender ‘embarrassed the state’ (apnews.com)

Utah’s Republican governor and lieutenant governor are urging the State Board of Education to take action against a conservative board member whose social media post questioning the gender of a high school basketball player incited a tirade of threats against the girl....

flames5123,

Sex influences gender, but they are not synonymous. You cannot be non-binary by sex. Sure, you can be intersex, but NB refers to gender exclusively.
