I keep forgetting that I hate keyboards

this makes it a bit of a problem given that's like 1/3rd of everything I do

foo,
@foo@fosstodon.org avatar

@foone I can sympathize. I got a new keycap set about a month ago. Looked beautiful. I absolutely could NOT type with it, presumably because the corners were too rounded. I didn't want to, but ended up going back to the keyboard's stock set after trying to make it work for a few weeks.

@mattgrayyes @emf Sweet! I've got a receipt printer in my home office which is connected to @lpd and will print to it when you mention it.

@mattgrayyes @emf @lpd I also had a dot matrix printer hooked up to identi.ca (basically the great-great-grandparent of the fediverse), back in 2010: https://www.finnie.org/2011/01/03/identica-lp0-on-fire/

I still can't get over the fact that @jorge has started a Fedora-based distribution called, of all names, Bluefin. (Still debating whether to let others in on the joke of why that name is hilarious, since it doesn't seem to be common knowledge.)

Do any of your cats get their claws stuck on fabrics or furniture and if so do any of them panic when they do and seem to forget how claws work?

foo,
@foo@fosstodon.org avatar

@eniko Yep, with the added complication that my cat hates to be picked up or handled (she's a Bombay so she has no independence and is a total lap cat, but it has to be on her terms).

So I need to be very careful when trying to help her; it's a balancing act between "she might hurt herself panicking if I pick her up" and "she might hurt herself panicking anyway".

The Apple A10 was the first A-series chip name to have a suffix, A10 Fusion. It was their first big.LITTLE implementation, so it sort of made sense.

The A11 Bionic was seemingly named because "A10 had a cool suffix, and Bionic is a cool word."

And then for the next 5 generations, they forgot to ask anyone if they should change the cool suffix, so they kept using the same up to A16 Bionic.

The latest is the A17 Pro, because everything they do is Pro. Everything.

If I ever build an interactive website in the future, I'm totally going to ask the user when they register to provide their preferred gander ("this data will be used for targeted marketing purposes").

Okta Verify just scared my cat, who was sleeping on my phone.

There's probably a company infosec policy which forbids cats from accepting the "Yes, it's me" prompt.

The boys and I picked up my BART number plate at Lake Merritt yesterday. These were taken from the old BART cars that were recently retired from service.

I'm glad @foo warned me it would be dirty. The back still needs a couple passes with a wire brush, but it's still glorious 😍

foo,
@foo@fosstodon.org avatar

@pleia2 No problem! I'm grateful to you for pointing me to the sale in the first place, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to pick one up myself.

@pleia2 Speaking of which, did your BART car number plate arrive? Mine came earlier this week, it’s large. And heavy. And dirty.

foo,
@foo@fosstodon.org avatar

@pleia2 Yeah, and most of the dirt was actually on the rear of mine. I'm guessing it was 50 years of a spec of dirt here and there wedging itself between the car body and the plate. I did a few rounds with cleaner and a wire brush to the extent I can handle it without black fingers, but it'll never be completely clean. But that's part of the appeal!

Properly photographing a 3.5" floppy disk for archival is annoyingly complicated. The label has THREE sides!

I've already built an automated system to take a picture of the front of a disk, but really I need to take THREE photos if I want to get the whole thing.

That means either three cameras or I need to rotate the disk 90° and then 180°, which is going to really stress the limits of my mechanical engineering skills.

@foone So with Amazon being the highest authority on retail these days, it would be safe to say you're waiting on rods from the gods?
