@Ertain Yeah power for bigger 3.5" drives is always the annoying part :(
I would like to see a couple more options for the Pi 5 that are sized to fit bigger drives (like the Penta SATA HAT, but for larger drives, and you could buy a cheap acrylic case for the setup... or even a cheap NAS case from AliExpress or something and insert the board as a true backplane.
@cloud_manul It could happen! I think we're getting there.
There's a strange convergence where Intel keeps pushing lower wattage (but not quite Arm efficiency level yet), and Arm keeps pushing higher performance (while mostly maintaining efficiency).
To the point I hope things can settle on an SBC that costs $50 or less, more along RK3588 performance level. To me, that's a sweet spot.
It's automated with Ansible, pulling ZFS snapshots from my beefy HL15 rackmount NAS, and it's sipping 8.5W while doing so. More to come, here's the story so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8EIs8s303k
it's awesome that this youtube short (by @geerlingguy) about MNT Reform is closing in on 9 million views and 2500 comments. it's also weird/interesting that this doesn't translate into more interactions here or elsewhere, like youtube is kind of its own ecosystem
@mntmn shorts are like candy; people watch them for a quick bit of endorphins, then they forget about it and watch another. And they're not super healthy (IMHO).
Long form videos have much more long term value but don't get juicy view numbers :(
@AdeptVeritatis Yeah it's mostly about reaching a different audience. If 0.1% of the 10 million viewers react in a good way... could still be worth it!
But yes and no; the bigger limitation is built in 1 Gbps networking, but you can get USB 3.0 2.5G adapters, but then you're right at the same cost as CM3588, which is faster still.
@DigitalKrampus I think it's the P2 Pro, it's great, the software's not amazing but good enough, and the camera hardware makes up for it. Love 25Hz refresh rate and the macro lens.
A number of people asked about the mini 10" rack I used in my last video, so here's a quick 3rd channel video where I go through it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8-cdA50bpU (thanks to DeskPi for sending it!)
I wanted a channel where I can put little 'extra' videos that I know won't perform up to YouTube-algorithm-happy standards, but I still think are useful and interesting!
