Bought my first white cotton t shirt since leaving Japan 9 years ago.

Ironically, it is also a Uniqlo shirt.

New Edinburgh store is super nice, a great retail space that just exudes the Uniqlo style. Top stuff.

I swear. Can news outlets not do even the smallest modicum of proper research these days?

The ship (MS Ambition from Ambassador Cruiselines) for the Edinburgh Fringe hotel is NOT the same as the Tallink Victoria I ferry which housed Ukrainian refugees for a year.

https://news.stv.tv/east-central/cruise-ship-used-to-house-ukrainian-refugees-to-return-as-luxury-edinburgh-fringe-hotel

Absolutely shoddy reporting by so many right now, probably due to the current turmoil with the SNP government happening at the moment.

Looking forward to the spate of corrections to come…

@Indyliveradio I remain skeptical that even ignorant reporters don’t publish without an angle / editors don’t let anything go to print without supporting an agenda, but I take your point.

The fact that I think this first appeared in the Daily Heil adds to that, especially since we’ve known about this since last year.

Hey ho. Gonna finish my coffee, and try to let the anger simmer down a bit.

Adding myself to the list of people who were locked out of their iCloud accounts overnight yesterday morning.

It was a quick reset and I had my devices on me, but kinda annoying.

On the plus side, I did change a password I’ve been meaning to for a long time. So silver lining and all.

186 years ago today. John Muir, who convinced US President Theodore Roosevelt that Yosemite should be protected as a national park, was born in Dunbar in East Lothian on 21 April 1838. Today his birthplace is a museum about him. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/dunbar/johnmuirbirthplace/index.html

@UndisScot I am originally from Wisconsin and have my Natural Resources degree from the same a university that Muir attended all those years ago.

Left a huge impact on my life, and now that I live in Scotland myself now, I’m looking forward to riding the John Muir Way later this year while thinking about the natural world around me that we work so hard to save.

Can you help count and identify these motorcycle riders?

Gang of at least 70 riders on non-street-legal motorcycles rode aggressively, illegally, and dangerously along the walk/bicycle route on JFK Drive (Eastbound) at Conservatory Drive West in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park at 4:19pm today, forcing many children and families out of the way as the gang threatened everyone with their deadly weapons.

Higher quality video available on request.

@graham_freeman There are many dicks in there, but I can say that a lot of those look like the 125cc Honda Grom, which is street legal.

You might have some luck looking for a local Grom owners forum, and look for any official meet up information.

Well … this might count for something last night.

Up near Cromdale for the week. Weather doesn’t look as good as Friday, but it’s still nice being up here and relaxing for a bit of time.

Annoyed at Duolingo.

As someone who sparingly used it, but had thought about giving it another go, I was a bit taken aback by the new sad Duo.

Changing UI elements like the app icon to send messages without giving users the chance to opt in or out, or change it back, is enough reason to delete the app (not just remove from home screen) as many of us take how we’ve setup our “workspaces” seriously.

I don’t know why I’m so bothered by this, but I am and I’m tooting about it now.

@edi_dot_bike Really glad to see the move off of Substack! One of the reasons why I cannot see myself ever monetarily supporting The Edinburgh Minute. :(

Love the weekly digests as an Edinburgh cyclist, and looking forward to supporting in the future when I have the proper means! Good luck!

Health gains of low-traffic schemes up to 100 times greater than costs, study finds

Research looked at three London boroughs to value overall health benefits of active travel over 20 years at up to £4,800 per head

@jbenjamint @kim_harding I can just see the future social commentary here in Leith:

“LTNs are gentrification! Pushing locals out because properties are too nice with active travel everywhere. Whatever happened to the Leith I grew up with! Too many bicycles making Leith unaffordable.”

number 18:
Glacial Drumlin State Trail, Waukesha WI
This is a 52 mile rail-trail that can take you most of the way from Madison to Milwaukee. It is crushed rock on the West and asphalt in the East. It goes through some interesting cities to visit like Lake Mills and Wales. I've ridden all of it, but only in parts. It will be a key part of my bucket list ride from to Chicago. There is good scenery w/ flora and fauna. It intersects the Ice Age (hiking) Trail.

@MartyCormack Did an out and back a number of years ago on the trail, just over 100 miles. Stunning day.

Legs were SHOT. We were trying to figure out why.

It was equivalent to a beautiful 6 hour trainer ride with an average grade of 1% 😂.

The lack of coasting can definitely be felt!

Would absolutely do it again though! The Badger -> Cheese ATV -> Military Ridge loop is also brilliant.

Another day. Another joyful walk resulting in some more reporting of pavement parking around The Shore using the City Council reporting tool.

They could have a permanent enforcement officer here, and they’d pay for themselves honestly.

geo,
@geo@mastodon.scot avatar

@krans New York City has a program like that!

Heck, I’d volunteer as an unpaid parking enforcement agent around The Shore if just for the opportunity to get some fresh air AND improve the area. 🤩

600 page Edinburgh Transport Plan set to go to the Council was published this morning.

Exciting stuff inside as a whole, and some interesting proposals concerning part of he Roseburn path being superceeded by the planned Granton Tram extension, lots more one-way streets in the city, and further cemented ideals that motor traffic is of lower priority for accommodations than active travel, trams, and buses.

Lots of Maps and the like starting around page 396!

I mean ... I've wondered if most of the traffic through Newhaven is just there to avoid congestion on Ferry Road.

The road from Wardie Bay to Newhaven Harbour would be such a beautiful spot - if it weren't full of the constant roar of traffic.

If you want to get radical about changing driver behaviour, this would be one way to do it.

geo, to random
@geo@mastodon.scot avatar

This is not to take away at all from the dire situation the evacuated residents on Lindsay Road are experiencing right now.

Every traffic engineer in the city of Edinburgh should be watching what happens very carefully the events happeing around Newhaven for the next few weeks (or months?) while the roads are closed to fix the building.

An ideal situation to reduce traffic from one of the most scenic roads in the city permenantly?

How about a Lindsay Road LTN?

One can dream.

Ōsu is a district of Nagoya that is home to more than 1,000 shops and restaurants, and the area is always crowded with people and filled with energy. One of its spiritual centers, Ōsu Kannon Temple, was moved to its current location by Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa in 1612 - on the 18th and 28th of each month, an antique market is held here. Here is a small photo set from this interesting area.

A good read on a local community group working hard to keep their waterways clear of sewage, and attempting to protect the future of the Water of Leith’s basins.

https://www.ercs.scot/news/save-our-shore-leith-two-years-of-advocating-for-a-clean-water-of-leith/

It’s a strong reminder that the government works for the people, and we need to continue to hold them accountable.
