If I wanted to avoid escalation by militant Islam in the , I wouldn’t start by making a quarter million able-bodied men homeless & motherless with nothing to lose.

@gimulnautti I see you’ve avoided answering my question about possible solutions and have instead discussed only what you’ve decided the problem is.

With utter disregard for any historical fact, I should note. Here are links to timelines to actual data:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli%E2%80%93Palestinian_peace_process

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_land_purchase_in_Palestine

@thetechtutor And like clockwork, here comes the: ”I have the facts around here” claim of authority, and linking of documents that point out exactly the same numbers and same process.

This and many others like you, have led me to the conclusion that blindness to the facts right in front of you is the real issue.

Go ahead, pick the facts, ignore the Nakba, ignore the surging of far right in Israeli politics.

It’s the increase of Israel that remains the problem, not the existence of it.

In a groundbreaking study from 2017, Chatard et al found social comparison to be subliminal.

In the study women were shown images of thin women or heavy women at sub-conscious threshold viewing times of less than 20 milliseconds.

Even when they consciously didn’t register seeing them and weren’t able to make the comparison, the study found feeling good or bad about their bodies still consistently affected.

The important question is what the above means for #mentalhealth of #kids, especially young girls on #socialmedia:

It means we can’t educate ourselves away from this.

We can of course alleviate some of the problems that follow, and we should. Social media provides way too many supermodel-shapes to push those buttons teenagers still don’t know how to react to.

And it is important for educators also to try and not ”talk some sense into the kids”, but promote healthy reactions to the inevitable.

”This isn’t 1939, this is 1938 but Czechoslovakia has chosen to fight.” …

”In that world where Czechoslovakia resists, there is no second world war.” ..

”There would have been a conflict, but there would not have been a second world war.”

We are in 1938, and we can prevent World War Two by helping Ukraine win!

I guess I’ll start preparing for a Trump victory. Not because I think the donald is doing good, but because what Biden is saying about may cost him the election.

This latest dismissal of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in particular.

Liberals understand the importance of . And undermining that just out of hand with broad strokes and bravado.. Is just digging dirt from under everyone’s feet.

I bet even now at least ten thousand 12-year old kids are studying their retention metrics underneath the blanket, hiding from their parents, trying to figure out how to squueze out an extra second from their next content.

@gimulnautti I feel that you're assuming a lot, essentially you're projecting your own imagination on an organization, a group of people functioning to solve complicated questions regarding risk and knowledge at the limit of normal engineering. This group of people is a poor surface for your psychological projection. A certain mogul maybe is a better surface but that doesn't remove the reality of engineering. That's why your post should tell anyone more about your believes than about SpaceX.

gimulnautti, (edited )
@gimulnautti@mastodon.green avatar

@tg9541 I have no quarrel with your views on the case.

I have presented my expertise, you have presented yours.

Calling mine figments of imagination though, is a way of devaluing the points of human psychology I brought to the table in good faith.

You broke the principle of charity. So in essence, we’re not equals any more in this discourse, so I digress.

Oh my. As much as I don’t agree with mr. Fico’s pro-Russian politics, I definitely wouldn’t want to give him any extra sympathies.

Which is sure to happen, because I hope he survives the attempt on his life.

This is also perfect for radicalising the far right among his supporters. Show them a threat and they’ll organise street patrols ”to keep the peace”.

It’s the perfect storm, really. Really wish this didn’t happen!

gimulnautti,
@gimulnautti@mastodon.green avatar

@wscottwatson Nope. Me neither. But out of respect for the man fighting for his life, without evidence it’s too much my morals to pull at this point.

Definitely to be expected though, is (more) cash flow to far-right and pro-russia blocks, perhaps even militias in Slovakia.

Perfect storm for Russia to stick it’s fingers in.

@stormbringer Ok business first libertarian boy.

Good luck with having a giant megacorporation as your friend.

Good luck getting your freedom back after you made it accessable only for those who pay.

Good luck after handing over the reins of society to organisations that weren’t democratically elected.

Good luck for the big companies abroad, no longer backed by a strong government & subsidies, overrun by China.

Good luck & godspeed with that, libertarian boy.

is now at peak -industrial capacity, practically zero unemployment, pay hikes because not enough labour force to man the weapons factories. 35% of government spending go to military. 7.1% of GDP. All of it to go up in smoke in

However, if we look at the numbers, this output only matches current EU military spending. Countries which are on avg spending less than 2% on it currently.

Tell me again how Ukraine supported only by Europe can’t possibly win?

I don't want to be doomer but PPP (purchasing power parity) adjusted dollar buys a lot more stuff to kill people in Russia than it does in the West.

155 mm artillery shell without luxuries like rocket assist or base bleed now costs around 7,000 USD in open defence market to buy.

mloxton,

The one's saying it will cost too much, are just repeating Kremlin disinformation.
EU countries and the US are more than happy to make money by churning out weapons. Russia is not known for great manufacturing power - they make their money from shipping energy and raw materials, not finished complex goods

@gimulnautti I'm kind of systematic when I get myself into it. I may probably start The Expanse a fourth time soon (that is, as soon as I've finished everything by Peter Watts, which I recently discovered)

Other triplicates are Foundation, the Robots and Cordwainer Smith.

H2G2 I stopped counting.
