I just stumbled across @MLE_online 's ~7min tutorial on how to make a 3D printed part look like a metal one with paint that's chipped off.

Very straightforward, and involves a technique i would NOT have considered.

@kiwa Embedded devices that run on Android are almost universally terrible. Is it more or less just Android in landscape mode, or does it have a custom UI that obfuscates its underlying “I was never meant to be a head unit”-ness?

@kiwa I didn’t know Android itself could be a Android Auto host (not that I’ve ever really thought about it either, lol), but that sounds far preferable. Android Auto is actually pretty good, when it’s not being ridiculously unreliable and switching languages mid-sentence.

@majorlinux Have you been playing anything that uses the shoulder buttons? How do you feel about the layout?

I keep seeing their handhelds but each one has that weird side-by-side layout for the shoulder buttons and it kinda make sense on this one, but I wish they would put them in a more traditional arrangement on their landscape handhelds (like add the little angled protrusion this one has for R2/L2, and keep R1/L1 on the edge).

In truth, I’d probably spend the vast majority of my time with it not playing anything newer than SNES, but still. That’s what I told myself when I got the 8bitdo SN30 Pro, and I was mostly wrong lol

@mcc @gsuberland @TomF @ivan I'm genuinely surprised I never noticed this, not that I work with Macs that often. It just seems like the behaviour one would expect, considering how the shift key operates in all other scenarios.

Considering picking up a used Wii to softmod, but also remembering every time I’ve softmodded something and then never looked at it again… what are some good Gamecube and Wii games? Preferably couch multiplayer games that someone (my s/o) who didn’t grow up on platformers might like (no fighting games pls; they bring out her cut-throat Monopoly side and I am terrible at all of them lmao)

Mario games are a given, so no need to name-drop any of those.

@kiwa What’s the story on that wild Logitech trackball? Does it clip onto something else? Is it meant to hang off the edge of a laptop?

@kiwa I remember seeing versions of this back in the day—probably only in movies though. I was born the same year this Logitech came out. The world already mostly moved on from trackballs by the time I was fully sentient and forming memories lol—but they looked like they either came with those laptops, or were an accessory sold by the same manufacturer. It never occurred to me that their might have been an aftermarket version.
