I’ve got my Amiga 1000 setup today with something special. This is the Frame Grabber from Progressive Peripherals and Software (PP&S) and it’s a video frame digitizer that connects to the Amiga over the parallel port. It can create images up to 640x480 in 4096 colors, which was a big deal in 1990.

Occasionally the stars align and someone makes a really good plugin instrument.

This is the sorta thing I love. A synth that doesn't try to do everything, but just do something very well. Something with its own sound and personality. Comprehensible controls, not a million options I have to learn.

An instrument I use when I specifically want something to sound like that instrument.

@Nifflas Yeah been also eyeing Atoms, looks really inspiring… and the sort of thing that makes sense specifically as a software instrument.

My old Apple Watch has had this issue that it doesn’t always charge. I figured it’s the power adapter and swapped to another one, which did the trick. But then it happened again. And again. WTF, how many broken power adapters do I have?

Then I realized just un/replugging the charger cable fixes it… Yes, I have to occasionally reboot my CABLE.

    @gruber @reichenstein This looks absolutely beautiful, but I have a problem with fancy notebooks… I am afraid to actually write/draw in them – feels like ruining them, unless I only write/draw something perfect and equally as beautiful. So they end up unused in the closet while I use some cheap thing. The fear of a blank page gets worse the fancier the page.

    @osma Oh FFS… sorry for spamming everybody’s feeds and thanks for the clarification! This information isn’t easy to find and enabling the user to do maximum harm by default doesn’t seem like great design to me. (Have the Mastodon devs done any user testing ever?)

    Rick Rubin’s book is a gem. At first, I thought it was meh, but the more I read, the more I started to appreciate it. Can’t think of anything else quite like it. Rick has a unique perspective to the creative process (and mind) of not just himself, but countless of artists. Creative work is a curious thing, because it’s largely subconscious, so it requires a curious approach. After reading this book, I feel less like a fraud, because I’m not alone with my weird thoughts and ways of working.

    Speaking of Zoom, remember how the client used to covertly install a root-level always-on server on your Mac? Until somebody noticed. I have to use Zoom for work (and I do prefer the client app UX over the other options) but this company has earned the same level of trust as Facebook.
