I'm going to be interviewed live on German radio station Radio Eins in a bit (around 11:20 my time today, I was told). You can tune in if you are in the Berlin area, or via the internet. My nerves! https://www.radioeins.de

@dukeitch I think they have an archive page, too. The program should be available to download some time after it airs.

5.25-inch floppy disks expected to help run San Francisco trains until 2030

@arstechnica They could at least use a Gotek.

I also figured out that what I thought was the internal graphics circuit giving up in that little living room PC I have (cf the review video I made a while back) was actually just a wonky HDMI cable. Had little dots and artifacts and occasional blackouts for weeks. Replaced the cable in a sudden moment of clarity today. Flawless now. Should have thought of that earlier, maybe. 😹

@chainq @iszell Yeah, those things are not very reliable at all. Especially since there’s so many varieties in speed/resolution nowadays. And the flimsy solder joints on the connectors break all the time, too!! /rant

In other news, I finally managed to replace the hideous modern IKEA lamp in my lab that was left by the previous tenants with something more period correct (a ceiling lamp that I’ve owned since some time in the early nineties). It’s showing some signs of wear from long term use in previous apartments I lived in (plus some yellowing that I didn’t bother to remove) and I love it. Lamp nostalgia. 😅

(Atari Mega ST photo bomb, too!)

janbeta,
@janbeta@chaos.social avatar

@bornach That’s true, especially for a lab environment. But I (thankfully) don’t have any of those laying around anymore. 😅

Here’s what I did last weekend (playing the guitar in my Nirvana tribute band). We "sold out" the club (it actually was a free show to remember Kurt Cobain who passed 30 years ago) and had more than 100 peeps of all age groups rocking to some noisy Nirvana classics. We had a blast although our singer had a pretty bad cold all week and could barely sing straight (he did a good job considering the circumstances in my opinion)! https://youtu.be/ssn2iE8DIdo

@blenderbuch He was high on throat pills and pain killers, so it worked out. The crowd definitely sang worse than he did for most of the gig (this was our final encore). 😅

janbeta,
@janbeta@chaos.social avatar

@byte He’s doing okay, he just couldn’t scream any more after the gig. 🎤

janbeta,
@janbeta@chaos.social avatar

@gausby That, too! 🏃💨

janbeta,
@janbeta@chaos.social avatar

@kolli It was very fun indeed! And also helpful in getting my mentally shaken self to finally go out and meet people again. 😊

janbeta,
@janbeta@chaos.social avatar

@gausby A noble cause! We are going to try to help by uploading footage of some guitar smashing!

@janbeta@chaos.social avatar

@gausby Possibly! 😅

New trend in my inbox: Getting spammed with offers for doing sponsored videos about robotic vacuum cleaners. Probably because I use a (regular old school) vacuum cleaner in some of my videos to dust off old computer parts. Sheesh.

janbeta,
@janbeta@chaos.social avatar

@reidrac Futuristic robots taking over all our households!!! 😅

janbeta,
@janbeta@chaos.social avatar

@davetansley Now, that would actually be fun! I might suggest that in my replies. 😅

janbeta,
@janbeta@chaos.social avatar

@breadbin It definitely doesn’t take much for the advertisers to take up things from my videos (albeit sometimes pretty strange stuff). Had offers for hair transplants, glasses, lawnmowers, solar, gaming chairs, loads of Windows keys. You name it. All not REALLY related to the general themes of my videos. 😅 I sometimes get offers for equipment that would actually make sense (multimeters, ultrasonic cleaners, digital microscopes). I try to keep ads and sponsors at an absolute minimum though.

Quick question: Can I duplicate/copy a disk image by button press...? I read something like that in this ticket: https://github.com/keirf/FlashFloppy/issues/71
However I don't see an eject menu on my FF -- using latest firmware.

janbeta,
@janbeta@chaos.social avatar

@root42 Maybe you need a rotary encoder to get to that option. Just double checked and mine displays "Eject Menu" when I push the rotary knob briefly. Haven’t tried anything beyond that in terms of duplicating though.
