@jepyang@wandering.shop avatar

Finally got what I needed(?) by taking a screenshot of a print preview. Everything else I tried resulted in my browser locking up).

Part of the reason this took so long is that they still have my contact information from high school and were trying to send 2FA codes to a landline that probably doesn’t exist anymore. I got them sent to my email instead, which was a 5-10 delay every time.

I tried updating my contact info but it would say success and then immediately forget it every time.

Hey all. There’s a comic book shop near me that’s struggling at the moment. The owner is disabled and nonbinary and dealing with some personal hardships too. They could use some sales.

They do mail-order, so if you’re in the US and looking to pick up some comics or graphic novels, maybe give them a look? (I bet they can order stuff that’s not on their site too.)

And if you’re not in a place to order something, could you give this post a boost?

Here’s their website: https://www.comicsmongers.com

jepyang,
@jepyang@wandering.shop avatar

This shop is a really special spot. The owner and most of the staff are queer, and they stock a ton of queer comics and books for all ages. They’re possibly the only business left in the area that is masks-mandatory. They host drag storytimes and they’re active community organizers.

They’re awesome, I really appreciate everyone on fedi showing support.

If comics aren’t your thing or you just want to give directly, the owner also has a gofundme here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/a-future-4-xtian-wz-reader

DAMN that’s some good shit.

I mean, it checks several of my personal boxes—

  • ontological mystery
  • post-apocalyptic lost technology
  • crisis in a closed ecosystem
  • interesting world-building
  • intrigue coming out the wazoo

—but I think it’s pretty compelling TV independent of those factors. High production value…which has not been the case for a lot of recent SFF prestige TV, IMHO.

@mcc I’ve been telling people for decades that there’s very little that Texans like more than things shaped like Texas. I grew up friends with someone who had a swimming pool in their backyard in the shape of Texas (with a cute little bridge going over the panhandle).

So I am not at all surprised to find that they’ve bred a Texas-shaped Texas.

@mayorbeetles Think of your three closest friends. If none of them are beetles, then statistically speaking, you are probably a beetle.

I got nonlinearcircuits - Fourier Panel+PCB as a birthday gift from my brother in February. Since then I've done a little 0805 surface mounted soldering (zlob - mineq and MTM - pulses (or was it volts?)) And it wasn't that bad and both modules worked on the first try.

Yesterday, I finally mustered up the courage to start working on this beast. All 10k:s done in the resistor matrix so far! One small fuck up that I fixed easily otherwise I think it's going pretty well. It's still scary though.

@symmetrizer The more SMT I do by hand, the more I realize it’s not scary or difficult… Just kinda annoying 😂

sale 😁
Figured I’d post these here before I go to modwiggler and then reverb, fedi gets first crack :)

First up, Mac Salad. It’s a clone of Cold Mac, with a couple extra features. A big mishmash of VCAs, utilities, voltage manglers, and a couple other things, all connected such that they can be easily used separately or in combination with one another. Hard to describe briefly, I’ve written more here: https://github.com/jepyang/Mac-Salad-v1.1-deprecated/tree/main

@synths Voltage-controlled LFO. Another one of my own design. It’s pretty simple. Square and triangle output, one knob for freq, a jack to control freq with CV, and an attenuator for that jack.

This is an early revision with kinda awkward control placement: the two knobs and the input jack are tightly packed. Also note the triangle output is not a perfect triangle: it’s got a bit of a log curve to it, and the rise/fall time are not perfectly balanced.

2HP Arp. It’s a tiny arpeggiator! I never played around with this one much, but it seems very cool.

(Boosts welcome)

Has anyone played the Humongous Entertainment ports for ? I am curious both about if the games themselves are any good (for a preschooler) and if the ports are solid.

(Games included are from the Putt Putt and Pajama Sam series, also one game called Spy Fox and another called Freddi the Fish.)

@jepyang@wandering.shop avatar

Fun fact: the hardest thing about and DIY electronics is not soldering (takes practice but most folks can do it) or knowing how electronics work (a lot of it can be approached like building LEGO or following a recipe).

The hardest part about DIY electronics is the fit and finish. (Not even aesthetics or an intuitive UI, though that’s all hard too!)

Just getting it all in a box such that it’s enjoyable to use and not in danger of falling apart.

Yesterday was a hard day. Got cheered up a bit today by getting a free bike off one of those Buy Nothing groups on Facebook.

When last I visited my family I rode a pushbike for the first time in over twenty years and I'd forgotten how much fun they were, how light, how without the context of being on top of an engine you look behind yourself and go "Wow, I went FAR!" and I said "Haha yeah I'm gonna get a bike when I get back to America." My brother said, as many people in my life have always said, "Dan, never buy a pushbike, people throw or give them away them all the time" and everyone's right of course, they do.

This thing's got two problems, slow leaks in the tyres and not changing gears properly. I've never fiddled with a derailleur before but eh, it's not rocket science, it just goes in and out on a cable; got the derailleur all cleaned off and adjusted up and still no dice so I took apart the shifter mech that lives on the yoke. Symptom was it wouldn't shift down more than a couple of clicks, this is the style where you've got two levers, one has a positive snap and one feels like a ratchet, the ratchetty one weren't ratchetting so I figured its ratchet must be stuck open and aye, its ratchet were stuck open.

Now if only I'd known this thing came apart on a left-hand thread, I might not have stripped that one bolt and be waiting on parts, but in the meantime I worked it a bit and gave it a drop of oil and now the ratchet bit works if you press up as well as in lol, just kinda hold it together with a squeeze whenever you change gears, it's fine

Tyres can wait til the weekend, I'll just pump it up now and then

Also this thing is so high. It's SO. HIGH. I'm 185cm and when I went to see to the bloke giving it away I craned my neck right back to say hello, dude could've been 2m tall. The seat's already down as far as it'll go and I'm 41 so I don't think I'm likely to grow into it. Getting real Penny Farthing feeling tryna ride the thing. Good fun though, and littleun actually managed to Properly Ride her bike today for a few metres, pedalling and everything, so tomorrow's gonna be a dad-and-daughter-and-bike day
