    @chris You're using "Compact" I guess? I'm trying to get into it, but can't stand having the URL rather than the title.

    In "Separate" tab layout the size of the profile chicklet seems reasonable, if anything I wish it was more intense, specifically I wish the color was visible when the window is backgrounded. In Chrome my profiles had totally different window chrome colors, and it was super useful to find them and know which was which even when minimized to dock. Need something equivalent.

    Just finished Better Call Saul up until S06E09.

    Now starting Breaking Bad from the beginning.

    Then El Camino, and then finish up the last 4 episodes of Better Call Saul.

    jerclarke,
    @jerclarke@mastodon.social avatar

    @shawnhooper I literally did this already and it was incredible.

    For bonus points, I thought I had already finished BB but I had actually forgotten to finish the last season.

    Anyway enjoy, what a great show(s)!

    I'm fed up with accidental input on my MacBook's trackpad. My hand-butts are constantly changing the cursor location, selecting text, and ultimately deleting sections of documents. I end up wishing the trackpad was just smaller!

    Anyone have advice?

    Seems like “Better Touch Tool" (https://folivora.ai/) is the big name in the space. Anyone have experience using it for this?Any tips for making the most of it?

    @chris Hardcore. I also just wish my phone could do Face ID sideways like my iPad. You'd think that wouldn't come up a lot, but almost every day I’m cocking my head 90% to get in! Otherwise it's a godsend.

    I also want my credit card to only work when my face is scanned! No one here in Mexico has Apple Pay and it's just so much more secure (and nicer) than a PIN.

    jerclarke,
    @jerclarke@mastodon.social avatar

    @chris Basically none! Not the official Apple Authorized Reseller I just visited, and as of 2020, not even the Apple Store itself offered Apple Pay. I had lost my credit card and needed to buy an iPad, and I was at the point of bringing a giant stack of cash in!

    I think they have it at the Ikea, which is brand new here, I got so excited to pay for things it's embarrassing 😅

    I know I'm likely beating a dead horse here, but I seriously wish people would just use the word accessibility and not this A11Y shorthand. I understand its necessity on twitter where there was this rediculous character limit, but Mastodon hasn't got such a restrictive character limit, and accessibility is not, last I heard, a dirty word. Just like blind isn't a dirty word, and yet I have to tell Shuttle drivers all the time "I'm blind, not visually impaired". Neither blind or accessibility are dirty words. For decades on end, no one had a problem with the word blind. For at least a decade and a half, no one had a problem with the word accessibility. What next? Is someone suddenly going to come out with some cutesy alternative name for a white cane? are we next going to be reduced to calling it a sticky wicky? Come on, folks, it's accessibility, not A11Y. We're blind, not visually impaired. a white cane is a white cane, not a sticky wicky.

    @jerclarke@mastodon.social avatar

    @maerlynofmiria @grrrr_shark Isn’t “visually impaired” a way of describing more people than just blind ones? That’s how I use it. Usually the affordances apply to a lot of people who might not qualify for any specific impairment.

    @ivory Feature request/bug report: On macOS I use the arrow keys to navigate through toots, and there are a lot of ways you can "lose your position” that are frustrating.

    Notably, if I “up" to a toot, then click “o" to view an image, then “esc” to close it, I lose my position, and pressing “up” doesn't continue from the toot with the image, it starts back at the bottom of the list, shifting the timeline, and I have to move back to where I was.

    Also happens when I click the image.

    jerclarke,
    @jerclarke@mastodon.social avatar

    @ivory Related to this, it would be great if pressing “o" again after viewing an image on macOS would close the image and take you back to the toot, like "esc" does. Currently it just makes an error sound, so why not make it useful?

    Both "o" and "esc" should take you back to the toot where you opened the image from by default though, right? Unless I've done some navigating in the background.

    Overall I'd just love a lot more permanence of the "selected" toot for keyboard purposes.

    @jerclarke@mastodon.social avatar

    @ivory I restarted the app and also updated it (sorry for not doing that), but it's still happening. Here's a video that shows the behavior:

    @chris I’m so pumped, my 11 Pro is old enough to justify an upgrade!

    I’m hoping my Apple Watch SE can survive another year though! I guess it’s as old as your 6, it’s been a real tank. All scratched up but still getting through the day as long as I don’t forget and leave it in workout.

    @chris Interesting. I use Instapaper out of habit but don’t love it’s rendering for a lot of sites.

    Does Apple get around paywalls? That’s a great feature of Instapaper.

    I hate Instapaper’s voices for reading out loud. The default Apple text to speech is way better especially for Spanish.

    @ivory Feature request: more space between the toot and the “tool bar” below when viewing the expanded version of a post. I want enough space for a good looking screenshot without the tools. Currently it’s too tight. Thanks!

    jerclarke,
    @jerclarke@mastodon.social avatar

    @ivory Ok, that sounds cool, but also a little more space on the single-toot view would look good in general, as well as making my screenshot workflow smooth.

    Thanks for considering.

    As an on-again off-again Star Wars obsessive, I am really enjoying Ahsoka.

    Slow and thoughtful, original but full of callbacks. New mysterious characters. Really hopeful for what’s next.

    I never finished the Rebels cartoon, and it turns out that is kind of important. If you’re feeling lost, check out the “New Rockstars” channel on YouTube. They have incredible “breakdown” videos for each episode that explain all the references, as well as summaries of each season of Rebels to catch you up.

    @chris Good luck, stay strong! No one needs alcohol, and every drop is poison!

    pre, to Facebook

    One of the hilarious things going on is that the big capital-owned news companies in Canada decided that they wanted some of Facebook's money.

    So they bribed the Canadian politicians into writing a copyright law which requires that anyone who links to the big capital-owned news companies pay those big capital-owned media conglomerates money for every link.

    😆 🤣

    Obviously Facebook then just stopped allowing their users to do that, because they don't even want their users to leave Facebook and go to news company websites anyway. It's the users that wanted to be able to link like that.

    😆 🤣 And now.. And now..🤣 😆

    For reasons not unrelated to the corporate/capital capture of law and sovereignty, all of Canada is in fire.

    People are trying to tell their friends on Facebook about how they have to immediately leave the town because it's going to burn down and they are all going to die.

    But they are trying to do so by linking to the local capital-owned news media conglomerate's web-pages.

    But doing that isn't allowed any more because, the news media conglomerates demand payment for that sort of thing, backed up by genuinely paid-for "democratic" bribery to the Canadian political parties.

    😆 🤣 And now.. And now..🤣 😆

    The Canadian government is today demanding that Facebook allow the linking even though it's the Canadian government's laws that tax and so forbid it.

    😆

    This timeline is so fucking cursed. I really hate it when Facebook is right.

    Though I do hate it more when people are all burning.

    @reneestephen @JeffGrigg @danielharan @nev @pre Seriously, if they didn’t want the embeds to show, they would ask for a way to disable them for your domain, no?

    This is already possible but not simple (banning a user agent). No one is asking for this because the embeds are beneficial rather than harmful.
