Seeing a lot of WEA/EAS messages being sent to Barnsdall, Oklahoma... It appears they have few other communications tools with residents after tornadoes hit the town several days ago.

Communications Outage (forwarded from FEMA Region 5) from earlier today, on the ATT telecom outage (which appears to now be restored):

"According to open source reporting AT&T is experiencing network outages across the United States. Customers are not able to send or receive phone calls (including texts) on AT&T network devices and the outage are also affecting FirstNet (AT&T) which is a network for first responders. All affected areas are not yet known at this time...."

Bonus for students of my first aid class today, is I tuned into the ISS (International Space Station) repeater, showing how amateur radio operators can communicate via space. (Not on the syllabus, but the timing was perfect). There was someone calling folks from Albuquerque, which was pretty impressive to them.

For decades police/military/intel agencies/critical infrastructure in 120 nations relied on standard to . But researchers examined used in TETRA and found something startling - an intentional backdoor.

  1. This and other problems the researchers found with TETRA would allow malicious actors to decrypt communications and also, in some cases, send malicious commands to critical infrastructure or send fake messages to police/military radios to disrupt their operations

  2. TETRA uses 80-bit keys in its encryption algorithms, but the researchers found that one of these algorithms has a secret reduction feature that reduces the key to 32 bits - which the researchers were able to crack in less than 1 minute using standard laptop and just 4 ciphertexts

Alright. I will admit - I don't like a lot of the vibe on , don't like how they are promoting celebrities, or how clout and status centric it has been from literally the first hours at launch... BUT

Because I'm a and professional, I do think I'll be staying there as long as others do. I'm already finding other marketing & people who I haven't been in touch with since Twitter in Nov. + lovely to reconnect with the community.

The Fedi is my true love though
