here's a neat and rare bit of hardware: the Comspec SA-1000 SCSI sidecar for the Amiga 1000!

@tubetime A lens cap would let more light through.

I'm more curious about the max you can stack and still see something.

Encyclopaedia Metallum¹ just put out an interesting statement² on AI. Despite being in text, I have to make it an image because of character counts. One of the ironies of living in my SF future apparently.

@zdl They should update the saying "An image is worth a thousand words" to "An image for when you have to post 1000 words."

here's a neat microcontroller. Dallas DS5000T. programs are stored in battery-backed RAM in an encrypted form.

jhaluska,
@jhaluska@mastodon.social avatar

@tubetime Encrypted? Interesting.

one of today's pickups is this mystery Xebec RAM card. I can't find any information about it, so I think I'll try reverse engineering it.

jhaluska,
@jhaluska@mastodon.social avatar

@tubetime With as much de soldering that you do, I'm surprised you don't' already have one.

jhaluska,
@jhaluska@mastodon.social avatar

@tubetime I suspect that this will be the hardest part of this project.

it's another electronics flea market here in silicon valley! slightly rainy today.

@tubetime Looks like another Reverse Engineer Project.

@tubetime I was having to erase EPROMS with a UV light as late as 2007.

Anyone else just... not particularly moved by travel? I don't necessarily dislike travel, but keeping a garden and a library is my preference 99% of the time. I find most travel stressful and disruptive, and I mostly do it to support books or see family.

jhaluska,
@jhaluska@mastodon.social avatar

@ZachWeinersmith Me. I don't desire travel at all. Kind of dread it actually.

These days I think all the unnecessary travel does more environmental harm than good. I get attacked a lot for this view, but very few people want to admit something they enjoy also has negative impacts on the world.

Maybe I'm just spinning a weakness into a strength, but I'm content with where I live...which is why I live here.

think i'll figure out how to refill these old HP plotter pens.

jhaluska,
@jhaluska@mastodon.social avatar

@tubetime This sounds messy.

jhaluska,
@jhaluska@mastodon.social avatar

@tubetime Maybe when you do it, if I were to try this it would look like somebody attempted to kill me with a sharpie.

Anyone know why there are suddenly a bunch of articles about EV sales slowing down? Like, data seems good? https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=61344

jhaluska,
@jhaluska@mastodon.social avatar

@ZachWeinersmith The percentage of people who both can afford an EV and an EV is more convenient is saturating. Growth is coming from the slower growth of infrastructure and more diverse models.

Florida middle-schoolers charged with making deepfake nudes of classmates

AI tool was used to create nudes of 12- to 13-year-old classmates.

@arstechnica If middle schoolers can do it, the genie is out of the bottle.
