I teach, tutor, & write about tech, with an emphasis on FOSS.

Sometimes I also dabble in coding, design, accessibility, & data analytics.

Look, when computer science departments have some of the worst learning outcomes of any department on campus maybe they SHOULDN'T be elevated as the experts on how students should "learn with AI" with the only reason being "computers"??? Just saying. I will gladly listen to the absolute heroes in CS who HAVE centered teaching and ARE incredible teachers but I guarantee their colleagues aren't.

@grimalkina

I agree this is true, but luckily it's only for the united states.

On a related note, the only comparable countries when it comes to computer science, ethics, and tech; are Russia and China.

@rbreich sharing a youtube link with a google utm campaign tracking on mastodon is pretty ironic.

I'd recommend using peertube or invidious links if you're going to be sharing links on mastodon.

I'd love to show whomever is doing your marketing how to if they are interested. :ablobblewobble:

@itsfoss

If this were true, why are you yourself sharing it on Mastodon?

This is highly inaccurate misinformation, and I'm assuming the people whom work there know enough about computers to know this.

Please issue a correction and an apology.

Contest cultures ("constantly prove you belong! Prove you're smart! Everything here is a dog eat dog competition!") tear people down under the guise of "toughness" and "identifying brilliance." In psych, we know this is destructive to long term sustainable work and mastery. We know it's systematically leveled at marginalized folks more.

These beliefs are at the heart of it all. This cannot be what we continue to let define who belongs in technical work and cultures.

@grimalkina This sounds like common sense to me, but I'm well aware it's not in the business world in-general. Thank you for your well-researched work on this, it is much needed.
