Only downside to the signal username things ... the discriminator number (two digit suffix for all usernames) eliminates the real landrush stuff that people normally encounter.

Why is that a downside?

Because I wanted to be cool! 😎

Oh, also, the fact it still requires a phone number means it still doesn't work for one of my use cases. (Chatting to iPads that don't have SIMs, and belong to people who don't have phones)

Weird PHP question:

Can an object replace itself in memory with a cast of itself to a sub class?

$object is FreezableArray. I invoke ->freeze(). Can it swap itself out with an instance of FrozenArray (inherits from Freezable)?

I'm guessing the answer is no, but I'd be very intrigued if it wasn't.

A day or two ago, someone suggested that phpBB should get a fediverse/activitypub plugin or built-in integration.

I'm still not sure how I feel about that, and I find I'm still wondering if forums - online forums in general, as a conversation medium - would benefit as much from activitypub as other concepts have (blogs, microblogging, photoblogging).

One forum I'm on is divided into 20+ topics, and within each topic there are a plethora of threads that are a decade-plus old and still active.
