if i noticed something when talking with outspoken pro-nuclear people it's that you really can't trust anything they say. they are intellectually bankrupt, will use all kinds of shady argumentation tactics, ad hominems, and can't even be bothered to write their own arguments (instead using AI for that)

but they do expect you to provide sources.

I wouldn't trust anything from them

I do have to wonder why I keep buying new versions of the same game over and over just because I like the art.
On the left "White Box - Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game" in its first edition (version 1.4) which i already had, on the right is version 2. I'm not actually sure what the difference is besides some art.

The game is your run of the mill white box clone based on Swords & Wizardry. The main point is the price though, this was under 7eur on Amazon. And it's a complete game.

does anyone else remember that time in the 2000s when Wizards put quite a lot of old stuff on their website for free? mostly some stuff that didn't sell that well, but there were a few pearls on there. Like the Maztica boxed set, or the orange cover Palace of the Silver Princess, or Secret of Bone Hill.

I am not sure if I should point it out like that, but these things are still downloadable via wayback machine...

so this exists: "(your name) AND THE HOLY GRAIL". A Monty Python and the Holy Grail themed adventure scenario from Space Gamer (1981).

because yes, we need even more Monty Python references in our / sessions.

Huh, is that just the local and federated tab? Why are those together now?

there is something utterly adorkable about H.G Wells' book 'Little Wars' (1913), especially considering the amazing reproductions of photographs featuring the author and his quite notable friends playing a serious game with toy soldiers... while dressed in what then was most likely considered leisure wear.

Here's a thing I have been thinking about for my campaign: there is a single church that trains clerics. They are a polytheist church though, and their priests are trained to deal with all kinds of different cult roles a community might need. Which is why all clerics have the same spells.
They accept the existence of all kinds of gods, even though some are banned from worship (e.g. Orcus).

Now what would be a good name for such an... let's say "all-embracing" church?

Ugh. HR requests a permanent stay permit (for being a foreigner in ) from me. I already gave them what I have (my permanent residence card). Which is my permit as far as I know and according to what I can find online.

I mean it literally says it's proof of my right for a permanent stay on it.

So now I am trying to figure out if they are mistaken, or if I am and I am missing some important document which no other workplace has requested from me in the last ten years.

Hmmm... did anyone ever think about making a sort of local bulletin board system with a small computer/old phone/sbc? The machine provides a wifi hot spot, but when logged on people only have access to a single local website where they can post messages to one another.

One could even have messages carried between multiple of these systems style. Kind of an alternet.

Reading through Das Schwarze Auge adventure A1 Die Verschwörung von Gareth (The Conspiracy of Gareth) from 1985, by Reinhold H. Mai and Andreas Blumenkamp.

And oh boy, this is like a quantum leap in scenario design and complexity, if everything you knew before was the B-series.
This now classifies itself as the A-series (for "Ausbau" extension) and is written for the rules of the Abenteuer Ausbau Set, a rules and lore expansion that came out in early '85.

actually no, there's also the feast they are served as guests of the Achaz. not that their hosts intend to hurt them. but there's an even chance between permanently losing hp, and permanently gaining them.

it seems orkland Achaz cooking is... interesting.

anyway, it's not necessary that one of the PCs gets married, but king Azl Azzl is very intent on getting his daughter Tili Tiki hitched.

I keep thinking how much more logical would be if someone actually had created local hierarchies like they exist for a few places. there's a france. hierarchy which has groups for all kinds of places in the country.

instead some places, esp. in Germany have hierarchies for themselves (like nbg. or bln.) while Austria has at. and oesterreich., UK has both uk. and england. etc.

but barely anyone is using these by now anyway, so it's a moot point.

Reading through Das Schwarze Auge B10 In den Fängen des Dämons (In the clutches of the demon) from 1985.

Written by Eberhard von Staden (who I know nothing about, except that he authored one more solo), illustrated by Jochen Fortmann.

This adventure is bizarre.

ordered chinese for lunch and it's the weirdest szechuan chicken I have ever seen: basically just breaded and fried chicken pieces, with a few red bell peppers strewn in for good measure.

at the same time they must have used some sort of other capsaicine spice on it, but the only way I notice it is because it's numbing my tongue. it's like eating a really spicy chili, except that it's missing the spicy part and goes straight to the numbing. weird.

Question to and northern fedinauts: you guys have your own bank notes, don't you? How does this actually work if you bring that stuff to England? I remember when some friends tried to pay with NI pounds in London people got a bit pissy about it.

(I mostly encountered it when I lived in the Republic of Ireland and passed over into the North a few times)

(It kind of feels weird because money issued by private banks isn't a thing in the rest of Europe afaik)

As if I didn't have enough project already I just got the idea of using or the for some or -style game.

Made me look into Cepheus for the first time, which made me realize it is not actually a pared down MgT but a variation of Classic.

Which means it is missing the best part of MgT: the life path character generation system.
That was the part that really interested me in Traveller, and which my players loved.

the discussion by @enfors and @kensanata about maps and river reminded me of this: the Thunder Rift setting for Basic , published in 1992.

It's a beautiful map, and the setting is trying to be good for starting characters with lots of different environments.

And then you start looking at the details in both the text and the map and you notice that

  1. the geography doesn't make sense (try to figure out the rivers)
  2. the setting is way too small for the given background

I don't know if #systemd and me are gonna be friends anytime soon.

it never does what it is supposed to do. what was wrong with simple cron jobs? I liked cron jobs. put stuff in, let run at time. simple. but systemd?

what the hell's a $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS?! why does this service need a $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR?!

and now that I have solved those issues it still doesn't want to run. gaaaaah.

throws systemd out of the window

looking towards adapting City of Carse for my games. I've had it for ages, but when I last checked it it didn't suit my campaign's mood.
Now I think I am going to have a look at it again.

Will have to remove the Midkemia references though.

By the way, did you know that Reymond E. Feist's Riftwar novels started out with a campaign (which crossed over with ?)
