Has anyone in #Canada ordered a #FrameworkLaptop? I’ve been toying with the idea but I’ve recently had issues with importing much less expensive stuff.

Did you have to pay duty and fees if just ordering direct?

This is pretty rad.

PalmOS has a definite nostalgia for me. In the latter years (Trio/Cento era), it was extremely usable. Not sure I could daily drive it in 2024, but there were some fine application for the PalmOS.

Although if I dream a little bit: a similar project that does the WebOS experience faithful and I can run it atop PostmarkedOS. I would daily drive that today.

Super interesting video about and . A few tidbits:

  1. they're both the same size as Nashville or Raleigh but twice as dense.
  2. LRT in Edmonton is more riders than SF Muni or Max in Portland
  3. Calgary's LRT has higher ridership than SF's total system (Muni + Bart + CalTrain)

🤯

(I was a bit annoyed by the attitude of "Amazing, Alberta isn't as bad as we believed" over and over, but they were at least open minded)

Testing out a new roll of filament. PolyTerra “Army Blue”

It’s not advertised as matte but it sure looks like.

Finished product: a table stand for in a couple of weeks.

I’m pleased with the filament and finished product. It was quick work with .

I published a blog post on at AWS.

" broke with the community that helped it grow and left them stranded. This community is now unbound and will continue to use and contribute to the project as they have always done, and with more freedom. "

I will be punished for this transgression in the next life.

Now that is public, I'm also excited to say that I've taken a new role working on the project full time.

This all happened extremely quickly but I'm really pumped to help build this community of open source contributors and users across organization.

(Also I get to talk about HyperLogLog once again!)

Anyone have any experience with these Cam modules?

I installed the example camera code and it works, albeit with pretty low quality, but it makes an audible crackling noise only whilst streaming. It sounds like a faint old school spinning hard disk.

It’s unnerving since the module has no moving parts. 😬

linux_mclinuxface,
@linux_mclinuxface@fosstodon.org avatar

@deshipu warm, but not hot.

linux_mclinuxface,
@linux_mclinuxface@fosstodon.org avatar

@deshipu oh weird. So you think the shield on the module is heating up from current draw and deforming as packets are sent? That’s wild, but makes sense.

It does make a faint static sound while idle. I wonder what is going on there. Background packets?

linux_mclinuxface,
@linux_mclinuxface@fosstodon.org avatar

@deshipu @piggo I did a 5 minute stream at high resolution and it got to 39.9c - so you’re right on with that.

@linux_mclinuxface@fosstodon.org avatar

Welp. It's official. is no longer

While I wasn't a contributor to the core, I presented on it dozens of times, talked to thousands, and wrote a book about it.

I probably wouldn't have done any of that with that kind of license.

Very disappointed.

I'm having déjà vu from when I had to write this blog post a few years ago.

@ThunderComplex You'd need a law degree to fully understand the parameters in that (and IANAL), but I wouldn't personally fork Redis after the license change.

That was quick.

Linux Foundation launches , a continuation of development from 7.2.4 with the same BSD 3-Clause license.

Just spoke to a friend and Realtor in Edmonton I've known for years. We were catching up.

Any house with a separate suite (legal suite) under $400K is going VERY quickly.

One house she knows of has 13 offers on it right now.

If we want afforable housing, we NEED to stop allowing "investor" or "revenue" properties.

linux_mclinuxface,
@linux_mclinuxface@fosstodon.org avatar

@kevinlovestech no, I get it.

Housing prices are high, even in “affordable” Edmonton,

The numbers are still wonky, though.
