πŸ‘‹ Hi, I’m @n8chz.
πŸ‘€ I’m interested in reverse engineering, especially under adversarial conditions.
🌱 I’m currently learning operations research, optimization theory, simulation, and statistics.
πŸ’žοΈ I’m looking to collaborate on volunteer curation of large nonproprietary datasets.

It should be super simple:

Billionaires should start paying their fair part of taxes

lori,

@stux Your percentile ranking should be your tax rate.

tbh there's never a time I'm not against the marketers. I'm opposed in principle to marketing. I do not regard it as an honest line of work, and that is the hill I will die on.

lori,

@MicroWave I was enthusiastic about the prospects for high-speed rail, but then locomotives got the John Deere treatment (re. "intellectual" "property")...

lori,

@MicroWave I agree with President Biden. To let Putin win is to let the Republicans win. That is one thing that absolutely must not be allowed to happen.

Is the incredible rarity of entry level postings a reflection of a manageriat that is trying to filter out entry level candidates, or one that is trying to filter out those who take stated requirements at face value?

With BlueSky moving towards finally opening up federation, I'm interested in how people feel about it?

Would you be open to the idea of Mastodon, Lemmy, Pixelfed, and other Fediverse platforms adopting the AT protocol in order to federate with it?

If those technical hurdles could be overcome, would you support your instance federating with BlueSky?

Does the same go for other commercially-owned platforms, such as Threads and Tumblr?

#BlueSky #Fediverse #Threads #Mastodon @fediverse

lori,

@ajsadauskas I mainly wanna keep Fedi mostly noncommercial and entirely nonproprietary.

They didn't have to ban the Yellow Pages, as they were able to successfully obviate it (or enshittify it to the point where everyone simply ignores the now-tiny unrequested Yellow Pages booklet that they received). Back when Yellow Pages was a thing I had a copy, and you had a copy, and being copies they were the same. Singe source of truth (SSOT), the beating heart of every distributed database worthy of the designation. The large print giveth signal dilution via noise, but the small print is just the commercial subset of the White Pages, only in subject order. Online "Yellow Pages," by contrast...

I was always (unironically) inspired by the fact that a particularly persistent pawn can sometimes be promoted to queen. I've never come anywhere near mastering the game (I'm not ANYONE's worthy opponent) but there are -so- few transformations of that type, even symbolic, in any cultural artifact. But now they've ruined the game's appeal for me.

This thing I'm hearing about this is there a theme to it? Is it about gaming blogging or something? In 50 words or less, what is it about? Just and ?

To me, the economy hasn't felt good (let alone great) yet (and I'm almost 60). I think the reasons for this is because most of the economic problems I experience are structural, not cyclical. I don't much care what part of the economic cycle we're in at any given time, and I'm not generally inclined to attribute either credit or blame to politicians when it comes to cyclical economic phenomena. I want to undo the structural changes that took place (broadly speaking) somewhere between the 1970s and 1980s, when it was decided that either job security or jobs with benefits should be a LOT to ask for. Absent that reversal, as far as I'm concerned, the economy is in a permanent recession.

Left libertarians are a thing. Libertarian meant anarchist (and definitely not "anarcho"-capitalist) for about a century before certain corporate-funded messaging campaigns invented "libertarian" as a re-branding for laissez-faire capitalism.

Don't know if it's part of the effect, but friend requests from "doctors" and "generals" seem to be a thing on the Fediverse now.

My reasons for proposing , a crowdsourced effort to reverse engineer against data asymmetries between business and society, were motivated largely by the desire to create a volunteer-run, , deeply searchable β€œcatalog of the economy.” The Internet contains many websites that purport to facilitate comparison shopping for various products, but these are invariably for-profit businesses in their own right. They dispense 10 or 20 single data points (embedded of course in bloated web pages) in response to queries, not direct access to the database itself. And which firms’ prices are or are not included in results are most likely a matter of behind-the-scenes exclusivity deals.
