The “great” thing about England is that when these articles come out and you google the person who wrote them it’s not something boring like “their dad is a trust fund manager” it’s “their dad is a baron, their grandfather edited the newspaper this appears in, and their family founded the private Bank of England

Licenses like GPL are reciprocative licenses. If you take, you must also give back.

Licenses like MIT are parasitic licenses. You can take without giving back.

I sometimes hear people say, they do not believe Russia is losing up to 1000 soldiers per day. I believe it, for I have seen hundreds of videos about how to uneducated soldiers of Russia fight.

In a recent video from the Ukrainian 47th Mechanized Brigade, a squad of Russian soldiers have been ordered to advance. But because of the dangers of mines, in all their wisdom they ride on top of their their armored vehicle over completely flat terrain, allowing Ukraine to see them from a mile away.

@randahl wait, but you understand that with 140 million (half crazed and half meek) population russia can send as many of those suicide squads as necessary until a) it has accumulated enough well trained and well equipped troops for a real push, and b) ukrainians run out of shells, right? right? :-/

@vfrmedia @paninid @lori It’s these sorts of exchanges that help assuage the regret of not being a tourist in the UK. I always wanted to visit London, and even Dublin too even though my entire family is aghast at why. Pop culture is full of shows where UK CCTV tech is a fundamental part of the story. Yet we kind of try not to worry too much over it. Things change when it transitions from public safety to menace. I miss civil disobedience.

The latest ONS data suggests that around i in 5 (that's 20%) of England's population are currently waiting for NHS care/attention of one sort or another.

No wonder dissatisfaction with the NHS is so wide-spread. Pretty much in any group of people in a social occasion or at work, there's going to be someone either on a waiting list themselves or with a family member waiting for treatment.

The crisis in the NHS is going to take a long time to resolve (even with the political will)

Lazarou,
@Lazarou@mastodon.social avatar

@ChrisMayLA6 I fear, like people taking out the Water Companies' greed on the workers, people will take it out on the NHS, rather than the Government strangling it.

Apparently a third of us just can't handle that sort of complexity 🤷‍♂️

New on Assigned, I found out earlier today that Jonathan Haidt, the author of the splashy new pop-psych book about how smartphones are bad for kids, believes and is promoting a fringe theory that kids are becoming due to social media as well.

Haidt told PBS that "clusters of girls" are developing gender dysphoria when they never had it before.

The problem, of course, is that there's no research whatsoever backing that up.

Oregon lawmakers fail to learn from a century of failed policy and re-criminalize drug possession.

Look assholes, the problem isn’t drugs or drug users. The problem is that you puritanical shitweasels would rather pay for $100k/dose cancer drugs that don’t work than pay for substance use treatment, improved mental health treatment access, and housing for people who are too mentally ill to work. You are choosing the corrections union over the people.

It really, really does not.

Or rather, if that's your concern then the stakes were already that high and you just didn't realize it before this. You not realizing the stakes is not the same thing as the stakes not being that high.
