I'm unprepared for this sudden outbreak of bright sun in . I'm actually shielding my eyes. Like some sort of light averse mole.

@emsquared Ahh you can't fool me, I've seen with my own eyes that Glasgow can have bright clear days.

And the Clyde can be as smooth as a mirror sometimes!

It doesn't happen often but every so often there's a glimmer of good news.

"Wind power has overtaken gas as the UK's largest source of electricity"

Although it's worth noting that's on average over the last three months. There are days (such as today) where wind contributes almost nothing to the UK's energy requirements.

Interesting observation about social media “fun”:

Some people think #Bluesky is “fun”. However, I find it anxiety-inducing and stressful. I’m not the only one who thinks so. A few autistic people say the same thing.

#Calckey seems “fun” to me because I can make it be what I need it to be. For example, it’s nice that I can create antennas devoted to my special interests.

It is rather strange that I can (among other things) Mute, Block or Report you or any other user I don't follow right there from the post, but I can't actually Follow you!

@DarkSheepArts Thank you for the compliment.

And yes, it's high up! I suffer mildly from vertigo so it was quite a challenge to go out along the walkway there, but at least there's the railing. I don't think I'd like to navigate it by boat.

This is the view from below.

I'm going to have a go at recapping this Spectrum+ that I acquired the other day. Wish me luck, it's the first time I've attempted something like this.

losttourist,
@losttourist@social.chatty.monster avatar

First one done. I'm delighted with how straightforward it was. The old cap came out cleanly, one of the pads was even left empty of solder. A touch more solder on the other pad and a ping of the solder sucker, and both were clear.

Anyway onwards and upwards, let's hope the remaining 10 go as smoothly!

losttourist,
@losttourist@social.chatty.monster avatar

Completed! And it works!

A huge thanks to Phil from https://www.retroleum.co.uk for selling the capacitor kit AND for having excellent clear instructions on the website for how to recap a Speccy.

Also thanks to @admin for screaming STOP! when he saw that I'd soldered the first capacitor in the wrong way round. I took it slow and steady after that and no more cock ups.

The physical placement of the capacitors could have been done slightly more neatly, but they're all there (and correctly oriented) and the soldering was easy and nice and neat.

All in all a good job and I'm quite chuffed with myself. Now to play the games!

    This map of coronation parties is a good tool to see how royalist different parts of the UK are.

    At first glance it's obvious what a southern/midlands English thing it is. https://coronation.gov.uk/events/#event-result-count

    Cornwall to north west England is a long, long drive, especially on the Friday before a long weekend.

    So on the way home yesterday we decided to break it up by going to visit Glastonbury. We've never been to Glastonbury town before.

    Anyway, I now have the answer to the question "what happened to all the hippies".

    We enjoyed it though, and the views from the top of the Tor are amazing.

    A mural on the side of a house. It depicts the head and shoulders of a woman with large roses covering where her hair would be. She is holding an animal's skull, perhaps a sheep's skull.
