Dunno what I'm doing here. I'm a fan of federation, but not sure about microblogging. Trying see what's going on with Trek and arboriculture.

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

That's a for sure buy. My first audiobook was this past winter with Janeway's autobiography, cause I wanted to hear Mulgrew narrate it.

Pretty fancy stuff you're talking about when they haven't figured out seatbelts :^P

I really liked those two paired up, and would have liked to have seen more of them together.

There's a lot of poor design decisions. Can you imagine flying a ship by touchpad?

"Shit! I just fatfinged the console, and dumped the warp core!"

"Captain, we need to send a shuttle to retrieve the core. Tell the Borg to hold on a minute..."

@maegul

I'm on the techy side of the spectrum, and I find the mastodon-lemmy interaction a bit of a challenge. It's a multi step process with some "Where am I?!" moments sprinkled in. The process will have to be streamlined for people that don't find computers fun.

He's alright. No love, but no hate either. What bothered me most was the 'Leave it to Beaver' presentation in the early years.

Lato - A beautiful downhill snowboarding game for Android (www.f-droid.org)

Today update to f-droid repo brought this nice surprise. A game where a snowboarder goes down the hill. Gameplay is... Simple, not much to do (avoid sine rocks) but the graphics are beautiful! 2D/3D mix with gorgeous lighting and day/night continuously cycling. Take a look!...

@lgsp

Game's very simple, but lovely to look at, and a nice way to spend some idle time. I'd like to have some very chill background music, and the ability to suppress game sounds, and of course a mute button.

I thought this was a funny turn of phrase...

FRAKES: You have to remember, audiences were not ready for a bald English captain with a French name. And a Klingon on the bridge, and a blind guy driving.

More rules=more opportunities to let criminals through without consequence. If you have rules A,B,C,D,E,G,H,I.. Someone could reasonably say "You were so thorough, the omission of "F" had to be intentional".

A B&W guideline, with the understanding that the letter can be violated at the cost of a thorough investigation afterward is a reasonable approach if everyone acts in good faith.

lxskllr,
@lxskllr@mastodon.world avatar

@Nmyownworld

It is vague, and I would consider that positive. In your asteroid example, neither approach would lead to hard disciplinary action, but perhaps leadership could stress that moving the asteroid was the better approach, and that would propagate through channels, so the next time, a captain will act accordingly.

Pike's interference is a little less clearcut. I think he did the right thing, and leadership seems to agree.

lxskllr,
@lxskllr@mastodon.world avatar

@Nmyownworld

The debriefing can propagate through channels, and others can use it as a guideline to compare with their situation when it occurs.

The outcomes for what a captain does can range from a hand wavy "Good job", to a week's long tribunal that ends with the captain stripped of rank and sent to a prison camp.

It's imperfect, as everything is, but it's a good workable system when used by elite professionals, and will result in a positive outcome more times than not.

@Nmyownworld

Precedent will make it better over time.

Sorry for the multipost. I'm on Mastodon, and have a character limit. I'm trying to limit my accounts, and working within restrictions, but I'm not sure the Mastodon-Lemmy is working out.

Holy crap, a tea house in Portland decided it didn't want to be named after the monarchy anymore, so they changed their name & branding. To Emperor Georgiou! 😻🙀

@LeDiva @allstartrek

From their page...

"Due to some feedback we received regarding the changes from our previous location’s British monarch interior, we wanted to explain the design of our new space. Given the history of England (and really the West, in general), we thought it would be more respectful to our diverse staff and customers to evolve our space into one that incorporates other communities not previously highlighted. "

Georgiou's an interesting namesake in this case.

"We didn't think our King George tea room was appropriate anymore, so we've renamed ourselves the Adolf Hitler tea room to be more inclusive."

Ok, so I'm trial following @startrek and I'm getting a torrent(<a bit of hyperbole) posts in my home page. How do you people that follow hundreds/thousands handle this? Just ignore most of what flows down the page?

I've tried to be careful curating the people I follow, and it was fairly manageable til today. Trying to avoid setting up a lemmy acct, but StarTrek is only gonna get more active, and there's more to life than StarTrek :^O How to manage?

lxskllr,
@lxskllr@mastodon.world avatar

@Barbarian

Doh! Oh well, the question stands. Probably some people here with the same issue.

lxskllr,

@End0fLine

I had looked into creating a post on lemmy from mastodon, and I read something that said it couldn't be done. Proceeds to create a post on lemmy... :^S

I guess I was reading outdated info :^D

Lists do seem to work well for organization, but mastodon isn't the best platform for lemmy. It works for limited use, but a dedicated lemmy account would be better.

is super cool once you see it in action.

For instance, you can visit the new StarTrek lemmy server here: https://startrek.website/c/startrek. Looks like a reddit sub with posts, threaded comments, upvotes, &c.

OR you can follow the same server on Mastodon ‪@startrek‬.
Every thread and comment shows up as a boosted post.

Cool, right? Now, say you find a comment that you want to reply to. Post through your favorite Mastodon app, and that feeds right back to the thread on the server! 🤯

@girthero @awilbert

It probably /could/ be duplicated across servers, but I don't see the benefit.

Email is the federated service everybody's familiar with. lxskllr@gmail.com, lxskllr@yahoo.com, and lxskllr@mailo.com can all exist simultaneously, have different users and content, but still communicate with one another.

lxskllr,

@chockblock @Cheradenine

It's a repo of github releases. They aren't compiled like f-droid releases are. With f-droid, there's another set of eyes looking at things before they get to you. With Izzy, you have trust each individual dev. I prefer f-droid, but I use Izzy releases when the program is preferred, or there's no f-droid equivalent.

lxskllr,
@lxskllr@mastodon.world avatar

@chockblock

That's correct. It should be in as-released condition from the dev. No alterations.

lxskllr,
@lxskllr@mastodon.world avatar

@Nmyownworld @ValueSubtracted

I believe it's because of federation. Beehaw.org is a "symbolic" subdomain of startrek.website since you're accessing from your account at startrek.website.
