Right, so you're seeing this and wondering what happened and why are you seeing a new account.

I bricked my fedi.maikel.dev instance of Calckey trying to migrate to Firefish using the obsolete and broken ubuntu.sh script on their repo.

After getting annoyed, I went to sleep, woke up today and tried again but with a fresh install. The script is still pretty much broken even for that so I'm taking charge of my online presence by forking Firefish and ensuring this never happens again, there's plenty in the repo I had already changed on my instance like what comes out when I use a search box.

I've lost ALL of my social graph so lots of people won't even figure out where the F did I go unless you boost this and might think I died 😇. So please, for their sake, do boost: I was before @maikel now I am here in @maikel

Big difference between the and commercial social media:

You can lose your entire social graph and give no fucks about it because as this is made of actual humans and not a majority of bots or spammers you know you'll find (and be found) by everyone again in no time.

Compare that to Twatter. Lose your account and it'll take AGES before you're found again because you'd relay on algorithms instead of humans.

My goal is offering my services as a cloud systems administrator and software engineer to get at max 5 permanent clients, and go back to what I was doing for 4 years happily ever after.

I'm already testing the whole system, streamlining the process, even have a customer portal dedicated to this that is going to be plugged to something similar to this page in fact you can already hire me using it.

To get there I've been doing courses about marketing, sales, getting clients, web development business since those are my setbacks, the bits of running my own company that I never learnt because I started the company already having a first permanent client who used my 40 weekly hours.

The best way you could help is simply figuring if YOU could be a client. My rates are on that preview, you can always just ask me if I can collaborate on X idea you have. I have absolutely nothing better to do right now than to answer you.

This solves the problem in the long-term.

Second way

You can instead help me by directly donating here. It won't be a definitive solution but it'll surely buy me time to avoid living under-a-bridge by the 3rd of September if not earlier & buy groceries.

I've managed to reduce the time Stripe takes to pay me by recovering my very old (and verified) account, so now instead of 14 days from the moment anyone donates it's gone to 7 days. If you're in the EU in the same page there are Revolut and Monzo links that are both instant.

500€ euros buys me a month, 2000€ gets me back in London getting a McJob now that I've managed to reduce my visits to my dentist to once every 3 months (and just had one).

Good morning of the

Today I'm heading to Paradise on Earth (Cadis) because:

  1. Got another vaccine to get put on by my hospital doctors and I'm never changing hospitals, nor doctors. Specially not for the ones of nothing-public-works-because-they-want-you-to-go-private Seville. That's today at 10:45am right now it is 7:26am. Costs ZERO.
  2. On the way to the hospital I'll go to my dentist clinic to get some more rubber bands for the invisaligners as I'm running out. Costs ZERO because when my bank account was happy I prepaid the whole Invisalign comprehensive treatment©️. I assume this will be around 9:30am and I'll arrive when they open.
  3. Then from there until Sunday or Monday I'll stay at my ex's place, which is the actual place where I am on the electoral role. Which is why I'm staying as Spain is facing GENERAL elections this Sunday, there's a strong rotten smell that the ultra-right-wing CUNTS are going to win and I'm not going to miss voting to try to prevent it from happening. Or at least to be able to SHUT every left-leaning idiot's MOUTH who hesitated when they complain about the right-wingers having won (all elections are chosen by who on the left goes or not goes to vote, right-wingers unfortunately ALWAYS vote) because they didn't bother go voting.
  4. I still don't know whether I'm coming back Sunday or Monday because I can't find train tickets for Sunday. My ex doesn't care. It means more free cleaning. This is why people host me....because they know I'll be cleaning on autopilot because that's what I do as someone who previously worked as cleaner and cleaner's manager from environments like a gay sauna, cleaning medical equipment or cleaning crime scene (I have a colourful life) when I'm home and thinking how to rule the world my hands are on autopilot cleaning in Monica Gellar mode.

During all this awful odyssey on the most beautiful place on Earth 🎭 I'd be going to the beach everyday while carrying on creating a protocol to get clients on the laptop once back (my ex's) home

I can't spend a penny obviously. Dentist = free, hospital = free, voting is free, taking this train is also free. So basically everything costs me the same as staying in Seville, my expenses are just food.

There's no gym of my chain in Cadis so I'm taking this 3 days as a no-gym rest. I expect to feel uncomfortable because of it, once you get the habit your body DEMANDS you burn that energy and otherwise makes you feel kind of anxious. In fact I generally feel awful when I don't go.

Remaining funds left 700€, no income, no entitlement to unemployment benefits. Let's not think about it.

Could someone help me find a free MAIL hosting provider for custom domains?

maikel.uk is up for renewal and gandi wants to charge me separately for the mail inbox (first ever they've tried to do that in all these many years) so I'm transferring out to namecheap but need something of the sorts of Zoho.mail or similar. (zoho is no longer free)

I don't think I would be able to use Calckey/Firefish if it wasn't for lists.

I do still wonder whether I should go back to Mastodon out of the fact I'd pretty much like to be able to use their (awful) yet useful API.

But it goes away as soon as I remember:

  • No markdown.
  • 500 character limit.
  • No markdown.
  • No antennas, so would need accounts in Fosstodon & others to keep up with tech. UGH!!
  • Boring interface.
  • Home tab with a tendency of cleaning up for no reason, at least in C/F I can be sure what I see is ALL that is there to see, even if I have to scroll back down a thousand times.
  • Awful image handling.
  • 4 images per toot and can't mix with videos.
  • Translation that can't self-detect the language of the poster & requires everyone to mark the language they post every time (yeah sure, no one will ever do that).
  • No word-search, this alone and by itself....should be a dealbreaker.
  • Fragment apps. Each one with something the other misses. Calckey has no proper apps, but the PWA has EVERYTHING for which you normally need at least 2 apps with mastodon.
  • A server with a tendency to break.

@kkarhan you could point the domain to vercel and they'll do the HTTPS for you all for free, in fact https://maikel.dev/ is hosted for free. YOu could also use github pages, in fact https://blog.maikel.dev/ is using it.

I don't think it is irrelevant when you're offering IT services. In fact, any other IT guy thinking in hiring might look at that and think "why on earth is he not using SSL when it is free nowadays"?
