Gah. Pete has just broken the lid on my brand new travel mug. The one I had to buy in pink because he stole my blue one. He stole it after losing his own blue mug that I bought for him as a gift because he loved my mug so much. These mugs get all the compliments at the coffee shops and are nearly perfect from my perspective. Sigh.

If you're looking for dinner ideas I made this super delicious red lentil soup yesterday. The kids really enjoyed it too. Made in the instant pot, really easy, simple ingredients ✔️ the only changes I made were I only used one large lemon and broccoli instead of spinach.

Maybe if Russian athletes are allowed to participate in the Olympics they should have to wear rainbow uniforms to indicate their neutrality. And then Russia would have to figure what they dislike more: rainbows or no Olympic athletes.

It's my yearly reminder to parents to walk with your kids. Don't just slowly drive next to them. It's unnecessarily dangerous and a waste of fuel. Just walk. Or bike. Take a hot drink with you.

I wonder about the Remembrance Day ceremony downtown. My first time attending the national ceremony was the one right after 9/11. I went with an army captain who'd been in a war and he was really upset by one of the speeches. He thought it was warmongering and that any military person that had actually been in a war would never want another war. He was right, of course, as we sent the military off to Afghanistan right after. I wonder what kind of speeches are going to be given today at the National ceremony.

@WTL I also think sports gambling should be illegal. Or go back to being illegal. Actually, I think all gambling should be illegal, just allow lottery tickets. People get addicted too easily and it's hugely life changing. People lose houses and everything else very quickly. As for pro-sports, well, for some reason it never occurs to them to just pay players less. Here's a guy that makes so much money he didn't even notice $16M missing. Nobody needs to make that much money, but there's a whole bunch of gambling addicts helping to pay his salary. People are losing their houses so he can buy another fancy house 🤷🏼‍♀️

Interesting to hear that 's PM resigned unexpectedly, saying he's no longer the best person for the job.

Wish that would catch on, internationally. A lot of our leaders don't know when to move on and pass the torch to someone else. Not necessarily younger, just better suited/qualified/positioned.

    School bus was cancelled this morning and none of the 4 families waiting for the bus had noticed the email announcing this 😫 so I had to walk the kid this morning. The sidewalks are not in great shape and I don't understand why. The roads are bare and the sidewalk ploughs should've managed the same yesterday. Most intersections are blocked, the sidewalks vary but at least one wasn't ploughed at all.

    @WTL Me being able to scramble over the snow bank is actually an accomplishment! Last year I either couldn't have done it or it would've been extremely unpleasant. I had to carry around a cane past when I needed it just in case I encountered a blocked intersection. Pushing strollers over those snow banks is just scary

    @grivettcarnac Both my boys opted to have long hair, my youngest had long blond hair down to his butt until he was halfway through grade 1. Aside from adults constantly misgendering I had to always repeat the refrain "boys can have long hair, girls can have short hair" due to comments at school. It was part of the "boys can wear pink" and "anyone can wear a skirt" series which didn't apply to them but was part of what I was trying to get across. All we can do is try our best as parents. The kids get to decide what peer pressure they can live with, we just have to support them with their decisions.

    @grivettcarnac I figure taxes should be according to number of people per square footage. Like our house is less than 1100 sq ft and it's plenty for 4 people. So, I don't know maybe 300 sq ft per person or something. Then you pay extra. I'm not sure what a good number is, but this house had a family of 6 living in it in the 70s. I can't imagine how. But people need to stop insisting they need big houses and we need to push people with big houses to put more people in them. This house, btw, gets referred to as a "starter" house by realtors. We need to stop thinking about buying more and start living with less.

    At the beginning of April I found the perfect mother's Day gift for me. It was in Etsy and was made and shipped from Ukraine. They estimated it would take two weeks to get here, but this seemed optimistic to me. I sent the link with the clear instructions that I wanted it for mother's Day and that it was from Ukraine so it would take a bit to get here. It was more than a month before mother's Day so I figured out would be ok. Mother's Day rolls and around and there's no present 🙄 they hadn't even ordered it 🤬. So they ordered it then. I just got it! I can't believe it only took 1.5 weeks via mail from Ukraine. Mail service is really amazing. Ukrainians are also amazing. Household males less so. Happy Mother's Day to me.

    Apparently it shipped on Wednesday. I got it in my mailbox the next Wednesday. From Ukraine. Through a war. Fully tracked. Ukrainians are amazing, but also postal services are great.
