what would you call a git commit that can no longer be reached from any branch or reference (for example because you ran git commit --amend or git rebase), but that you can still get to from git reflog?

I've considered "orphan", "dangling", and "unreachable" but none of these seem right:

  • orphan has another meaning in git
  • dangling only refers to the "tip" commits
  • "unreachable" means that you can't reach it at all

would love a term that's already used, I don't like inventing terms

@b0rk @bsmedberg so, a commit without a parent?

Hey
Any recommendations for books with nonbinary or transmen main characters? Feeling like I could really use the representation, but all I'm finding are transwomen, and that's... not me. As long as it's fiction, any genre is okay.

@SRLevine I'd be interested in that blog post if you have a link πŸ™πŸΎ I'm in a similar boat as a writer and I'd like some additional hints to possible blind spots

@diazona @bookstodon do it! I bought the first one on the strength of Wells' preview reading of System Collapse and quickly checked out every one in the series from my library.

Hey exercise geeks-- OK, so I normally jog on fairly good gravel roads that are fairly hilly. Today I went off-road a bit running around in some low grass hills. Well, it just obliterated me. What gives? Does it just take more leg power to keep balance and form on grass? Or is it that you get less sproing off a step when it's not hard ground? Is this good for you or just dangerous?

markw,
@markw@mstdn.social avatar

@ZachWeinersmith IDK the details physiologically, but I've had a similar experience. did you reduce intensity on transition to the grassy terrain?

Are there betting pools for deaths of notable people? Like betting what year, day, or even hour of the day a person will die? Perhaps betting on cause of death too?
I think I might write about a skeevy character who either runs or participates in such a scheme and make a bad loss the backdrop for a story.

I had forgotten about this song and this band. The band is still around though it looks like membership has fluctuated quite a bit since that song came out.

    @Hey_Beth I may be missing some layers here, but I think this use of loyalty isn't new at all. like, "my guy/friends/family no matter what, right or wrong" is basically how a lot of people who talk overmuch about loyalty mean it.

    Not a physical book, but a couple of digital books I've abandoned because they're just really crap. Physical books have to go through some kind of editing and pre-publication review, so it's rarely that bad.

    hit all my reps on squat finally. I'd been failing at least one set at 225lbs. I took some longer rests between sets, but I still count it
    also getting it back together on bench

    I don't get why people say "cats are independent" --With the possible exception of a millionaire who has lived their whole life in the same hotel rather than buying a house or condo... I can think of few creatures more spectacularly dependent than the cat.

    could easily sustain a whole army of service staff if she had the cash to hire them, but instead she "makes do" with my husband and I who have somehow been drafted into doing all of the work for free.

    markw,
    @markw@mstdn.social avatar

    @futurebird Probably it's in comparison to dogs. I think it's said that cats have never been as fully domesticated as dogs. It may be more perception than reality, but I can readily imagine a stray or feral cat surviving without human help, but not so much dogs.
