@mike Such an excellent post, and it may have rekindled my hardware lust just a little bit. I used to have a real passion for building PCs that were as affordable as consoles and just as powerful. (Even a short side gig selling them to friends and followers). But now I’ll live vicariously through your adventures. Thanks for sharing this, was a joy to read.
And you’ve made it to my Thunderbird RSS section <3

Ordered a 2015 11-inch MacBook Air from OWC last night.
I have a couple of 2011 models, but only one is functioning at the moment.
The other needs a new battery and a new trackpad, but I suspect there’s an issue with the logic board as well.
The 11-inch MacBook Air is my favorite Mac of all time. And this is (nearly) the best version — it has the i5 instead of the i7. It can run Monterey without any hacks, but I’ll probably use it as a dedicated Linux machine.
@RL_Dane no issues with the smaller control key. And because of its placement relative to the fn key, I find it easier to do common keyboard shortcuts for things like copy and paste on Apple keyboards than if I was using a more traditional layout with the fn key to the right of the ctrl key.
Cool man. If I could get used to it, old macbooks would be a sweet little linux/BSD machine!
I'm still low-key mourning my 2014 13" MBA that got baptized in tea in 2019. :BlobhajSadReach:
Looking back, I wish I had splurged on sending it to Rossmann's shop to fix it.
I wish there was an app like Amphetamine for iOS. It would be useful when I’m putting Caleb down for a nap and want to see the stopwatch section of the Clock app on screen indefinitely.
The extra virgin olive oil that we normally get is now $15.99 a bottle. That’s compared to the $8.99 it was the last time we bought it.
I feel like the old grandpa talking about how cheap Hershey bars used to be. Expect I’m in my 30s and the reasonable prices existed just four years ago.
On iPadOS 17, are you unable to customize the battery widget on the Lock Screen to show details of a specific device? I can’t get the widget’s option screen to display.
