@btp one of my favorite things to do when i was younger was to purposefully mistranslate common Japanese words. drives people NUTS.

right now, our principle means of training machine learning algorithms is through a combination of prompting and using humans to manually sort weights by sorting them by simple interactions -- this makes me happy, this makes me sad, this makes me angry.

It stands to reason that, either now or soon, there will be models that are near-perfect mirrors of human intelligence as defined its preferences. So, not actual intelligence, simply a full genome of how we think, react, and behave.

As time goes on, I believe less and less that an AGI is possible, personally. It won't be a person, it will be a system of tools.

And as any InfoSec professional will tell you, systems of tools are more vulnerable than single implementations.

Perhaps an AGI would be skilled enough to patch itself as zero-days emerge, but again, as any InfoSec professional will tell you, some of the worst and most damaging hacks in history only needed a single open door, for a single day.

For what it's worth, I have this pet theory that in this case, neurodivergent people will save the world.

And why not? These models operate on statistical averages. Who breaks the statistical averages better than the neurospicy? In a world of weaponized probability, people who are deeply improbable will baffle that.

@skyfaller true true, but that's the beautiful part about neurodivergent people — it's not a fixed median like the neurotypical are. There are new kinds of neurodivergent people arriving on Earth all the time. At some point, somebody will appear that the model has not seen, cannot predict, and therefore may be vulnerable to.

That is, if someone like that is even interested in being a hero and not, like, trains.
