like, yeah, we had a common platform in javascript once, then companies started thinking that they could control the tools you use to view the web.

once we saw browser-specific sites start to come back, we should have known it was all over.

First time body doubling with a friend yesterday and it was so helpful!

We chatted a lot so I'm not sure if it was the connection that helped me feel less overwhelmed with work, or the simple online presence of another human. Not sure if silent body doubling would work on me yet, especially cuz I love chatting with people nowadays to stave off loneliness. Must keep testing.

My dear sweet elderly mother just told me about a conversation with one of her neighbors. (They live in a small rural town in PA)

This neighbor is a white guy and ... he sincerely thought that my mom had "Obamacare" because Obama made it for black people only. Or something like that.

"Well at least you've got that Obamacare."

I want them to move back to NYC. I wouldn't trust that guy to call a damn ambulance. Mom insists he's nice. And to be fair he has done some nice things IDK. WTF

The Background Music Experiment (1/?)

I've been playing around with having music that always plays in the background out loud. I tend to accidentally sit in silence a lot. I also sometimes use my phone to play audio that isn't music, where I wouldn't mind music continuing to play in the background, or may forget to turn the music back on. Ideally, I want to be able to listen to nature sounds to better foster a connection with nature when I'm indoors. However, other sounds could be fine so long as they're not too distracting. If I'm already using Spotify, where I do have a lot of curated playlists, to listen to something else, like a podcast, there's not really an option to put that on in the background. I think sounds and smells are some underrated ways to curate a space beyond visual things like paintings. Sitting in silence sometimes makes me feel like I'm punishing myself when I don't mean to.

@pixouls kinda reminds me of my own experiences with Turntable FM back when that was popping. It was like Pandora but operated entirely by humans. Pretty cool, never felt like anyone managed to do DJ'd radio quite the same way.
