It’s Time for Furries to Stop Using Telegram

I have been a begrudging user of Telegram for years simply because that's what all the other furries use. When I signed up, I held my nose and expressed my discontent at Telegram by selecting a username that's a dig at MTProto's inherent insecurity against chosen ciphertext attacks: IND_CCA3_Insecure. Art: CMYKat I wrote about Furries and Telegram before, and included some basic privacy recommendations.

@soatok Is there a good, secure chat service (that... ugh... supports sticker packs. Not a fan of sticker packs but furries seem to want those.) that does not require a phone number? Both Telegram and Signal have that problem of needing a phone number. While it is true that one can disable finding by phone number in Signal, that just looks like a workaround for a problem that should not be there in the first place.

    @GossiTheDog If only I could lock replies to non-bluechecks instead.

    @MissingThePt I think I'll wait for Elon to try it first.

    Oh cool, I finally got around to fixing my GitHub Sponsors stuff. So I guess if anyone wants to sponsor the random F/OSS stuff I do... there's that https://github.com/sponsors/gmemstr

    I might open a ko-fi too but frankly I'm not too worried about it at the moment. I'd love to do F/OSS stuff full time (heck I'd even be open to being sponsored/contracted to implement specific stuff for specific projects) but that's a long ways off.

    @arch Ah, thanks for the reminder. I started creating my GitHub sponsors profile some time ago but hadn't gotten around to finishing it and submitting it for approval.

    Hackers from TU Berlin managed to jailbreak cars, unlocking software-locked features worth up to $15,000 🪓🪓🪓

    They used a known (unpatchable) voltage fault injection attack against the AMD Secure Processor to glitch the boot process, got root, and retrieved the car's RSA private key 👌

    @jomo Great. I hated the idea of buying a car and having to pay more to unlock features anyway.

    bluesky user complains about mastodon: it should not take rocket science just to join a social media.

    bluesky: no media tabs, no videos, no gifs, no bookmarks, racism allowed, no report option categories, block and mute list publicly available in the user profile, mayo is a slur, no manual content warnings, moderation powered by AI, no polls, no pinned posts, no privacy setting, slow app.

    mastodon: choose an instance 😩

    mortonfox,
    @mortonfox@furry.engineer avatar

    @yesjohn But it takes rocket science to join Bluesky too. The rocket science of finding someone who can give you an invite code.

    @Cloudguy Wow, thanks. I haven't heard about what security breach happened this time but I took the opportunity to clean out a lot of old logged-in devices (50 of those!?) on my Amazon account.
