Orcus (Porkus) was happiness, fun, and joy, and I cannot let him be remembered by sadness. However sad I may feel right now, it's not fair compared to the joy you brought. We will always remember you my little bun 🥰 hopefully your not even 8 full months of life on this earth were made better with me and Lua loving you.

@_lamaisondeschons @Satori hopefully they'll be as happy as Orcus used to be resting near the AC along with Lua 🥰
(They're near the air entrances and would clog the filters with all the fur)

It is with great sadness that I tell everyone that followed Lua&Orcus, that Orcus has passed today during the neutering procedure. He was a young bunny filled with health and joy, but had a complication due to anesthesia and didn't wake up.

This is the last photo I have of him waiting, good bye my little bun, me and Lua are going to miss you a lot ☹️

Edit P.S.: I've removed previous posts of him since it's a little too much to look at rn

The house is so silent it seems strange: I had got so used to the constant running and jumping of them both in the past months that I didn't even remember how it was, since Lua is a lazy lady that won't move unless she has too or when hungry 🥰

ncrav,
@ncrav@mas.to avatar

@Satori thank you all and to the lovely Skye. Lua appears to have given up on further searching and roaming for the night (here is almost midnight), as she has gone up to her usual resting spot.

In case anyone wondered what it’s like to have a rabbit who doesn’t want to go to bed- here’s the video from last night! 😂 Skye will go to bed eventually, but it will be on her terms!

Skye is the queen of stalling. She knows when she’s deviating from the routine and gets a little thrill, giving naughty head twisties and binkies! 😂❤️

(After she hops in her magic loo she sails off to bed - she prefers riding to being picked up 😂 👑)

Rabbit ignores parents, hopping about (and binkying!), stalling by pretending to be interested in something off the bed, and finally hopping in her loo a rebellious way.

@Satori the little jumping around 🥰

Orcus: "I was just checking the foodstuffs daddy!"

I had left it unlocked so he was able to jump to a nearby box and get under the cover, I only noticed when I heard him try to chew thru a bag of food 😅

Orcus jumped into an unlocked crate of bunny food, and was checking the foodstuffs.

ncrav,
@ncrav@mas.to avatar

@enby_of_the_apocalypse once they learn where the foodstuffs are it's hard to keep them out. Even the slightest distraction will have them try to binge like little piggies 😅

Mastodon is hard to self-host, which leads to too few instances with open registrations. Gargron's solution is to redirect everyone on his one million users server.

At the moment the 419 instances having signed the have 387,191 users, i.e. 4% of the total number of users and 27% of the number of monthly active users (MAU) (I give both numbers because we can expect these users to be more committed to the fediverse, so more active, than lingering mastodon.social accounts)

In order to we need to give to @bonfire and to speed up their development now!

@oceane the intent was only to give more alternatives, not to reduce/change in any way what you said, but I'll remove my post since it had the opposite effect, sorry.

ncrav,
@ncrav@mas.to avatar

@oceane understood and yes I may have overreacted as well when trying to defuse any possible harm. You're correct and I'll be more careful in the future in my interactions.

If I were so obscenely rich I could drop half a million to take a family member on some risky trip to, say, the bottom of the ocean, I'd probably consider dropping a few thousand extra to hire someone to research whether the guy running the trip was a total clown who ignored blatant engineering and safety issues https://newrepublic.com/post/173802/missing-titanic-sub-faced-lawsuit-depths-safely-travel-oceangate

@AbandonedAmerica it is the same kind of people that give money to the likes of Musk, they have way more wealth than sense.

Not doin great today. Honestly hate my life.
Every victory of my life has been immediately followed by a new challenge to my kids' life.

I lost count how many say bc I support gays, including my son, that I am WITHOUT A DOUBT a abusive mutilating prodofile that should be beaten, locked up for life. I think you all know this isn't some rando trolls, this is what Republicans will do when they come to power in 2024.

Did I think I was protecting my kids? Surprise! Actually means I'm a monster!. 🙃

@twitchbunny how people think it's ok to attack/threaten people for posting stuff like this amazes me. We would be living in an utopia if only they focused all that energy into making guillotines for people that actually deserve it.

    @robin given the server covenant FB would fail instantly on number 1: "Active moderation against racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia". Expecting them to be any different on p92 is a pipe dream, and from experience: even when they start showing the same content and ads there they'll still get a pass because of their wealth.

    I like static websites. I like self-hosting. The only thing that bugs me here is image hosting. I think I'm missing something.

    @floppy usually I'm testing service deployments with postgres, nginx, and simple backends in Nim/OCaml/python. I also do some heavy data processing stuff but that I test locally on a desktop built for that.

    Edit: I should add that I usually find IO more of a problem in cheaper VPS when some services do some complex-ier querying 😅

    oliphant, to random

    The path of least resistance states that some big company owning social media isn't a problem, until it is.

    If things seem competently run, you'll give them a shot, start posting, entering a bunch of personal data, tell your friends.

    I think it will be harder to convince people to do that going forward. We've had a sort of 'social media reset' the past 6 months or so, and if anything, it seems to be accelerating (as all the big platforms start doubling down on really bad ideas.)

    Ultimately the web is transient, and stuff can change over time, and a site that was once trusted can lose that trust.

    Better, I think, to exist on a platform where no one owns you, your data is exportable (and importable, some places) and your follow graph can move with you.

    You get to watch flameouts and personalities and bad admins in realtime here, too, lots more of them than just one.

    But you're ultimately not beholden to any of that. You can move until you find your people, and your followers come with you.

    That's just not a thing anywhere else.

    ncrav,
    @ncrav@mas.to avatar

    @referencemoth @oliphant just to add: although you can put whatever you want in a TOS most of it is meaningless in most EU if it circumvents or goes against the law. GDPR requires explicit consent (opt-in) for most things not directly needed to provide the service. Even then many companies ask for it, e.g. for a bank account: I'll have a consent box for the opening process. I will also have separate consents for marketing et al, to which I can say no to without affecting the account opening.

    ncrav, (edited )
    @ncrav@mas.to avatar

    @referencemoth @oliphant that's a good question but I guess in the same way that people that want to operate here need to comply. These days it's mostly stipulated that the law that applies is always the one where end-users/consumers are, unless there's some state level agreement dictating otherwise. Be it GDPR or VAT.

    ncrav,
    @ncrav@mas.to avatar

    @referencemoth @oliphant as a note there were actually US companies that blocked the EU in the beginning due to the GDPR, like the LA Times, don't know if there's any still doing it.

    scholzmx, to random

    There was a solution all along.

    ncrav,
    @ncrav@mas.to avatar

    @http @scholzmx we had that before cookies but usually involved things like meta viewstate in the html served.

    ncrav,
    @ncrav@mas.to avatar

    @http @scholzmx yes, you're correct, the example was more related to what was done in the times of pre-js with server generated pages to achieve similar functions (I think I still have a book from circa 98 explaining it 😅)
