Anyhow. came across this picture of the taken during daylight through our telescope in 2020. The photo was actually done with a mobile phone right up to the eyepiece, so a very amateur bit of astronomy!

In-laws will be going on a later this year with their friends who are older than them and decidedly doddery. The wife may have early stage Alzheimer's and the husband is a little forgetful too. Anyway, they decided to leave it to the doddery couple to book everything. Wrong names. Wrong addresses. Imaginary email address. And a bus transfer from Luton Airport to Southampton, when Luton Airport is 100 miles in the wrong direction and nobody will be flying anyway.

@sharongascoigne A miracle that the in-laws got their documents and found all this out. Wrong address but the postie realised it couldn't be the derelict house on the envelope so guessed at a nearby similar road. Right road, wrong number, but luckily people who knew them so put it through their door. That's when they found all the other wrong things.

A 'floor window' for today's - the glass floor of the Spinnaker Tower here in Portsmouth.

Here's my wife with our kids on the glass back in 2011.

None of them wanted to walk on it, as if crawling made it less likely to break!

alerted me to a post on by Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram development, and a couple of things caught my attention:

  1. He's also having problems getting eyeballs and engagement on Instagram if he doesn't post reels, so heh. If only he knew someone who could do something about that.

  2. He's posting because he wants his posts to "do well", not because he actually has something he wants to share just for the sake of sharing. It's all about the numbers.

@sharongascoigne I know a lot of people from the cruise industry and cruise blogging world and they're all reels-crazy. Instagram encourages it because it's Meta's best fit as a competitor for TikTok. People's followers' and following's photo posts are a distant second to engaging reels for advertising metrics. Ugh.

I deleted all my Threads posts when I realised it valued single posts over actual threads. That was too annoying for me. The suggested content was just dire celeb stuff too.

A distant view of one of Iceland's highest waterfalls here, with a car towing a caravan in the bottom right to help with the sense of scale. This is Grundarfoss and that drop is seventy metres. Grundarfoss is close to the town of Grundarfjörður on the northern coast of the incredibly beautiful Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

A squirrel eating one of the nuts we distributed on our walk around Kingston Cemetery in Portsmouth yesterday. Despite some signs asking people not to feed the crows we also handed some out to some of them too because it never hurts to have crows think well of you.

Random photo from the archives, back from when I had a technique for pseudo-HDR monochrome processing and liked to use it a lot when sharing images on Google+.

This was taken in late 2014 in Exeter Quay, Devon when we used nearby Exmouth as a base for exploring the area for a few days.

Shiny new passport! And even though they cost $350, you don't get the double-sleeve plastic envelope anymore, just a transparent single-sleeve one. Cheapskates.

I have to keep the old passport for a while in any case, it still has a valid US visa in it.

I often have enough trouble seeing the ball on a normal field goal attempt without there being snow. Can we get flashing lights on the ball for kicking attempts?
