    @ryanbooker it’s equivalent to about 2 cups of filter coffee 😅

    Today's accessibility question (I swear I try to find the answers on my own):

    I have a small button on the right side of some whitespace. If a VoiceOver user is exploring using touch and drag how do I make the Spacer's whitespace part of the button?

    ChatGPT and Bard were useless.
    Trying to combine them as an accessibility element didn't work.

    nesevis,
    @nesevis@hachyderm.io avatar

    @MuseumShuffle you should be able to make the HStack the accessibility element by adding the modifier ‘accessibilityElement(children: .combine)’ to it

    Ladies and gentlemen, the Internet: https://youtu.be/QHi479xN_po It can't be explained, it has to be experienced with one's own eyes and ears.

    @reichenstein I don’t know what that was, but I loved it.

    MuseumShuffle, to accessibility

    I am struggling with my first attempt at adding a SwiftUI accessibilityActions. I want to add move up/down actions for VoiceOver.

    A standard drag/drop works. After changing the rotor to actions I can select my "Move Up" action and it appears to work.

    BUT if you try to "move up" the same entry again it swaps back to its original location because "firstIndex" is never changing. 🤔

    nesevis,
    @nesevis@hachyderm.io avatar

    @MuseumShuffle @curtclifton can you use users.enumerated in the ForEach to access the index directly?

    @christianselig We’re using a heavily modified version of it for a new feature in Reveal, too. It fit our use case nearly perfectly. I was half way through writing my own when I came across it 😅

    In our custom book rendering "engine" we built for Thinking in SwiftUI we can mix and match Markdown, SwiftUI diagrams and locally override styling for certain parts. For example, here's an experiment with matching colors in the text and the diagrams:

    Made an change for VoiceOver in Slack on iOS. Tested it well via swiping gestures but forgot to test via explore-by-touch. Turns out, that was broken. Getting a hot fix out ASAP, and my apologies to any VO users that hit this issue (roll out was only at 1%, so hopefully very few!)

    So let this be a PSA to always test your changes with swipe gestures AND explore-by-touch on mobile!

    This is absolutely disgusting. Organisations that are among the richest in the world want bailed out - fuck that!

    Isn't it curious how capitalism is so amazing that socialism needs to bail it out constantly when it completely fails.

    https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/may/11/state-governments-forced-to-indemnify-church-bodies-for-child-abuse-due-to-insurance-market-failure

    nesevis,
    @nesevis@hachyderm.io avatar

    @bazscott I read that this morning and was very confused. If they can’t be indemnified against payouts related to their abuse of children in their care, they won’t be able to … help vulnerable children?

    nesevis,
    @nesevis@hachyderm.io avatar

    @bazscott it’s outrageous that this is how they address the abuse: by reducing the consequences felt by the organisation. If they started tackling this problem at the root, maybe the church wouldn’t be such an effective bit of camouflage for predators of all stripes. It just makes my blood boil.

    “I think we need to dig into what is happening here, which is that, when faced with a system that presents itself as a listening, eager interlocutor that’s hearing us and responding to us, that we seem to fall into a kind of trance in relation to these systems, and almost counterfactually engage in some kind of wish fulfillment: thinking that they’re human, and there’s someone there listening to us.”
