From a human behavior analysis standpoint, this image is absolutely fascinating. There is so much information about human behavior that can be extracted from the data represented here
EDIT: OMFG 1701 IS THE DESIGNATION OF THE STAR SHIP ENTERPRISE (NCC-1701). TREKKIES WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS?!? :zerotwoevillaugh:
@mdmrn@cholling so basically they collect likes and dislikes from the extension users and extrapolate to the total number of likes/views? Interesting approach, but I can see how the data could be subject to bias :HoloHmmm:
Just a few quick words about EP 3 of I'm In Love With The Villainess.
This is the episode people were worried would be cut. In this EP the character talks openly about being gay. Rae says without angst that she is gay and Clair is reprimanded for her prejudices.
The author Inori-sensei, and the production team stepped up to the plate and didn't flinch.
As much as people hate Twitter it would be a good thing to go there and drop a message of support to @wataoshi_anime
I am sure the haters are banging them right now. Let them know they have our support and appreciation.
@NaraMoore I know I shouldn't be too much surprised, but why watch it at all? Do people think that girls in yuri anime are "very good friends", like the meme? :akkoShrug:
@catsalad My father bought a reader and a couple of disks for work, and I got a spare one. For some reason the computers on my school had an integrated zip reader, so during school projects I could watch my classmates fumble with their floppy disks, from the high of my 100MB storage :diolaugh:
I'm not going to comment on ongoing drama in the fediverse other than to say this:
If the very public interpersonal problems, accusations, and disagreements (legitimate or not), originating in private discord chats, among the admins of some of the largest fedi instances results in a bifurcation of the progressive (read: not alt-fedi, not troll-fedi) federation, everyone will lose in the end.
My big fear right now is that this will result in purity tests - like mutually exclusive DNI lists - that preclude federation with all the big progressive instances
I really hope this all gets sorted without tearing the federation apart
@neatchee I don't know what drama in particular you are referring to, but I really wish admins had the maturity of resolving these type of conflicts in private, where they should be, rather than dragging all the innocent people in their instance along.
@andreagrandi@ThePlant yes, that's what I am curious about. Is that person using a collection as a way to sync the bookmarks, or is Google doing that on its own? Because if it's the second case... Yikes.
I just finished the series and I have feelings about it, so I need to rant a bit. Nothing interesting to see here, just a few toots in no particular chronological order.
To begin with, the first opening from Yoasobi was :chef_kiss:. I forgot that anime OST was how I used to discover new Japanese music. I should really find time to watch new series again.
Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. It was easy to follow even for a Gundam illiterate like me, and put a few new spins in the Gundam formula (I'm sure the Gundam professors will embarrass me to death, now). If I remember well, it's usually the space colonies that are oppressed by Earth and start a rebellion, but my last watch was the original Mobile Suite Gundam from the 80s, so I'm not going to swear on that.
The idea that the Gund tech was originally for medical use is also interesting.
@tojikomori I liked the fact that there is a lot of commentary on bioethics in the serie, but I found kind of absurd what they gave as the reason why to ban the Gund Format. "This technology kills the users, it's unacceptable. We want them to be killed in battle, as they should". It's so blatantly an excuse :ds_tanjirodeadinside:
Based on code in the Reddit’s Android app, Reddit appears to be working on a “contributor program” that would let users cash out gold or karma (basically, points you get for posts, comments, or giving awards) they receive into real money.
Yep, that's not going to submerge the site with spambots and karma farms  .
Having just gotten the rundown on what was going on at AO3, I feel like "Never underestimate the power of bored nerds on the internet" should be one of the classic blunders like not getting involved in land wars in Asia, or going in against a Sicilian when death is on the line.
Here's a link to an explainer (and no, the nerds didn't ddos AO3, they figured out who was)
@justanna TLDR: it was Russian hackers, trying to spread Islamophobia among the LGBTQ+ community to bring discord between the west and the middle east.
I'm curious if there is any link to proof of who the attacker was, the video doesn't say.
How do you properly format the extra fields metadata in your profile to include HTML tags? I can't seem to make this ownership thing work. If I open my profile, it renders the raw HTML
