Where does this trend come from where people describe their physical appearence during presentations? Who asked for this? I personally am rarely curious what anyone looks like or what they are wearing. If I am, I'll ask. It feels more like a narcecistic desire of theirs, to tell us how they look and what they are wearing. Which is okay, I guess, but I thought we were supposed to not judge based on appearence? And also, it puts pressure on everyone else to do likewise. Nothnx!

Imagine the alternate universe where free software advocates trippled down on #accessibility as the way to solve inequality.
Their legacy becomes talking boot menus and commandlines you can actually read, a GUI you can use just as easily with a keyboard as a mouse or a head tracking device. You have the peace of mind that anything with the FOSS label on it will "just work," regardless of your physical or mental capabilities. The brand becomes associated with longevity, and stability.

Oh well!

We shouldn't talk about screenreader access like it's basic or simple. We call it basic to encourage people to follow web/OS standards, but esentially lying about the challenge helps no one. Nor are screenreaders simple to use! We tech literate people are used to them but it's nothing compared to the UX of glancing at a screen and tapping/clicking a mouse. Good luck teaching the modern web to a blind person who's 65 and thinks "the big blue e" is how to access the internet.

Yet another mandatory upgrade of the Proton mail bridge, yet they still can't get the thumb out of the sphincter to add even a modicum of #accessibility.

Like, I don't know, labeling their controls. Or, making the password field, the entire point of the app, focusable so that I can f*cking read it and use my email.

Oh well!

And yes, I've sent them emails. Dozens, actually. As have several others. They do not care.

Super excited to announce that you can now use WhatsApp for web without using a QRCode to sign in! Simply select "link with phone number" from web.whatsapp.com and enter your number. You will then see an 8-digit alphanumeric code. Enter this code on the phone under linked devices > add a device > link with phone number and WhatsApp will do the rest!

There is supposed to be a list of episodes here to purchase, but none of the content is reading for me, I just see the navigation section and "powered by squarespace." Is that because there's an accessibility issue with rendering it to screenreaders, or is it not loading for anyone?

So I've been practicing a bit with my Mortal Kombat 1 character and I'm thinking I'm good enough to go online. I go through all the options. What seems like the least commitment? I try versus. Pick my character, get connected with someone.

Before we've even started the match properly:

"Hey, can you hear me? Well. I wanted you to know, you're a black, homosexual, gay, nigger." End of match.

Kid couldn't have been more than 12 years old.

Some things never change, I guess.

Here's an idea for someone smarter than me: an AI-powered copilot that would help me play games. For instance, it could describe the scene and provide me with real time updates on where enemies are. It could read text in the world. It could help me aim. Or for walking simulators I could say, "take me to the objective." So much opportunity here!

I really don't understand why braille is so expensive. I'm not even talking about multiline refreshable braille displays or whatever the new tech craze is. I just mean printing braille on a surface. The thing that makes braille the most useful. The Perkins braille writer is $800--not the new one that's supposed to be modernized, the one I went to school with that's existed since the '50s. The new one is 2000 dollars! Or the LoganTech thing you can type on to make labels, that's $1100! Why?

Is anyone having trouble with the applications key on Windows 11? It appears to be opening from the mouse rather than my keyboard focus. So if I arrow to a folder in windows explorrer and hit shift+f10, rather than opening the context menu for the folder, it will open the menu for some other part on the screen. Is there an option I need to change in Windows somewhere to fix this?

@NVAccess Sorry I am too busy/lazy to search github: do you know about the issue with updaters for some apps (particularly Electron-based ones) where focusing the window with NVDA active causes both NVDA and the app process to hang, forcing you to restart both? It happens with Beeper and Clubdeck. Worse, it occurs in the middle, so the app is not in a useable state after this and you need to DL a fresh exe. Was hoping 2023.2 would fix this, but it is actually worse now because it happens faster.
