ohwhatfollyisman,

as much as one hates whatsapp, the headline is not the most accurate. the article states that it’s not specifically a vulnerability in whatsapp itself that exposes a correlation between a sender of a message and probable recipients.

this is a flaw that can be used regardless of your choice of messaging platform. but, yeah, even if whatsapp itaelf didnt drop the ball in this particular instance, still don’t use it.

ohwhatfollyisman,

the whole point of I, Robot was to show the flaws in the three laws and how they aren’t watertight.

take the story of the robot who declared hinself a prophet on the Mars station and locked up the humans. or the one about mind-reading robot that started lying because of Rule 1. both highlight how that particular permutation of rules doesn’t always do what it says on the wrapper.

im talking of the book of short stories, of course. not the travesty of a movie starring will smith.

ohwhatfollyisman,

looks like the engineers misunderstood what “training mode” was supposed to do.

they would want to improve their track record after this, otherwise the public would just choo them up.

Do old phones just sound better?

So I’ve been messing around with a few phones lately, a nexus 6p, a pixel 3a xl, and a s21 ultra, and I’ve noticed that on the 6p and 3a xl both sound louder, punchier, and clearer when compared to the s21 ultra. They also both have that thicc notch design with a massive speakerphone which might add to the high volume...

ohwhatfollyisman,

you’re comparing apples to oranges here. it has nothing to do with their generations per se.

the 6p had fantastic speakers; perhaps the best non-gaming phone speakers in all of phone history. only the pixel 2 series matched it for loudness and quality.

samsung’s galaxy series really skimps on that front because they want to give you an excuse to buy their otherwise wholly unnecessary earbuds. they’ve a 2cm grill at the bottom of the phone coupled with a tinny earpiece. of course the sound from them is shit.

ohwhatfollyisman,

surely she’s attacking the wrong problem? the issue wasn’t that she ran the dishwasher in the first place, it was that she loaded the wrong item into the dishwasher.

if this story is true, then she should avoid loading the dishwasher. running it or not is immaterial.

ohwhatfollyisman,

what was his crime? eating a meal? a succulent chinese meal?

ohwhatfollyisman,

the scenes when one won’t be able to choose 5318008.

18+ Obesity is morally wrong and should be illegal in my opinion

The reason why I think obesity is morally wrong and should be illegal is because obesity is putting up a big burden on our health care system. There are alot of nurses who get injured on the job because they had to move a 300lb morbidly obese person to the other room. Which is morally wrong because they’re injurying nurses...

ohwhatfollyisman,

you’re conflating obesity with selfishness. they are not the same thing in all cases. if obesity is caused by hormonal or glandular issues, there’s literally nothing the obese person can do to alleviate the situation.

if obesity is caused by a combo of gluttony and laziness, you may have a point but even there obesity is not the root cause. it’s a symptom of selfishness which, sure, is morally wrong.

ohwhatfollyisman,

even when one finds the viewpoint abhorrent, one cant help but admire the penmanship.

ohwhatfollyisman,

maybe they ran out of funds to allocate to its safe construction.

if only it was ad-supported.

ohwhatfollyisman,

who would have thought that her chosen character for a self-insert was Dolores Umbridge!

ohwhatfollyisman,

… and years and years more here. this app cannot be recommended enough.

ohwhatfollyisman,

… if I had to see a discretely parked boat…

fyi: discreetly parked.

all boats are discretely parked otherwise.

Black man who borrowed father's BMW questioned, forcibly arrested outside home (www.cbc.ca)

tl;dr - Black man driving his dad’s BMW is detained for being suspicious because he doesn’t look like the sort of person who drives that car. He is subject to a rough arrest as his mother watches. Gatineau police insist there was no racial profiling.

ohwhatfollyisman,

wasn’t this already an episode of fresh prince?

ohwhatfollyisman,

is it not wildly ironic that the two leading teams are each depending on their derby rivals to stop the other from winning the title?

ohwhatfollyisman,

“the current leader needs to stop fascist activities by behaving exactly like a fascist!”

ohwhatfollyisman,

and who determines the “sometimes” when it is “justified”? does that happen only when it is done against the guy you don’t like?

ohwhatfollyisman,

it happens when the guy I don’t like does crimes.

you do realise that’s the exact idea used by every fascist from Mao to Mussolini to Modi, right?

who determines that actions taken are crimes? should there not be due process that measures them against the law before such a distinction–such a judgement, one may say–is made?

or should anyone be able to point a finger willy-nilly at anyone else claiming them to be a criminal and to start doling out the lynchrope?

ohwhatfollyisman,

did they really have to release a new official video for the song?

couldn’t they just, you know, let it be?

ohwhatfollyisman,

are you sure that isn’t just a case of your phone dissing you?

ohwhatfollyisman,

memos are the logical upgrade from emails where you want to make sure everyone receives it

uh, email is memos? email is so memos that ibm’s proprietary email management solution Lotus Notes calls the transaction “create memo” where outlook calls it “new message”.

and the topic is not up for further discussion.

bit rude, imo.
