@AlSweigart@ehmatthes itertools and functools take the crown for each being parts of the #python standard library that are grossly underused. They solve so, so many common programming patterns in a way that is measurably more performant than other solutions.
You want to have a for loop within a for loop? You can use itertools.product instead!
You want memoization of a function/instance property? Just use functools.cache, or functools.cached_property respectively!
I really like the idea of #HomeAutomation. However, the available software systems just do NOT do it for me. My smart thermostat has been blinking that it cannot connect to my wi-fi for weeks, my #HomeAssistant is out-of-date because updating it is painful, my Z-Wave adapter is currently not functioning properly because somehow the adapter stack can't talk to it, ...
As a bit of a #homeAssistant project, I noticed my old #RaspberryPi is quite near my 3D printer (basement) and it just runs a #Mosquitto#mqtt server. It has more capacity than that, so I attached an old usb camera, loaded #nginx and wrote some #Python to take a pic of the printer and stuff it into both a web page and a home assistant dashboard.
@thisismissem@pixelfed I'm curious how it got caught/why it wasn't caught earlier, and whether older versions in the wild may still be affected. Though I imagine that may all have to wait until after 2/25?
BREAKING: Conservative Republican Governor Mike DeWine has just announced he will VETO the ban on gender affirming care that recently passed the legislature. #news#trans#journalism
This comes after tireless efforts by families, LGBTQ+ activists, and the heads of Ohio's nationally recognized children's hospitals.
@e_urq@gavinisdie
> "None of [the families] that I talked to talked about surgery," said DeWine on Friday. "That's not where they were going in the discussion. And I think that's, frankly, a fallacy that's out there that, you know, this goes right to surgery. It just doesn't. All the children's hospitals say that we don't do surgeries."
