what problems do you run into with git's staging area? right now I'm feeling like the staging area is one of the least confusing parts of git (merging, branches, and remotes seem to cause people a lot more problems) but I'm very open to writing about it if there are problems

@tbroyer @b0rk I just stopped using stash the same as your second point:
it's messy, I never be able to remember the arguments (some cases I'd like to stash EVERYTHING, even unknown files, in other cases I only want staged changes, what to use when??), and instead I'm just committing "wip"s then rebase the whole thing before push 🤷

@amxmln @bramus unfortunately there's disparity of features even on Android:
you can install a PWA as WebAPK from Chrome (and that makes it look like an actual application which you can disable in focus mode, force permissions, set screen time or open by default), but you can't do it from Firefox, it only works like a shortcut that opens a new tab.

as far as I remember it's something that the system needs to allow first, and only after the browser can support. (I might be wrong though!)

@amxmln obviously, this is a great step forward, and I agree, we should look for the future for even more improvements!

I believe PWA handling is a combination of the system, launcher and browser. for example some Android launchers allow to put Firefox's shortcut on the home screen AND in the drawer, while others only allow the former. so even launchers allows different things on the topic 😅

What's the best (looking) cross platform RSS Reader app in your opinion?

I want to be able to create a curated “news list” for myself and stop relying on X / Google News for accounts and websites not on Mastodon yet. 🤔

@amxmln I'm using https://inoreader.com/ for a while (replacing Feedly):

  • it has an Android app: no major problems, but there are minor UX issues though.
  • it also has a website: the ads are not intrusive so I turned off my adblock too (sometimes a modal pops out nudge you to subscribe, but that's bearable 🤷)
  • and as far as I know iOS app too, but I don't own an Apple device
  • it has a subscription model which provides more features but I never desired more than an "Google RSS reader" 🙂

@zeh @amxmln definitely, it would benefit from a more modern design both the site and the app as well!

but in the other hand Feedly was better looking and the swiping between articles always bugged.
so I guess I traded bugs for design 😅

@harish I have so much anger towards inflation and price hikes...
📈 inflation rises -> prices rise too, salaries stay (or in case of budget cuts they fall)
📉 inflation falls -> prices stay, salaries stay

in short, we are fraked.

also, 6.8% is STILL A LOT. since we moved to the UK our groceries went up around 20%! 😠
and the base was already higher than what we spent in France 😥

@janl if "time order" means "older at the top", then "partly, in time order"

most of the posts (social media / RSS) in time order, but if I see a lengthier post (thread, post to an article, etc) I open it in a different tab and read it aside.

it was over-hyped, confusing for the sake of confusion and exposition bomb all over the place..

I really liked Interstellar though, but maybe because I have a soft spot for black holes?

(Inception was okay, but I feel I liked it more back then than now)

@harish I don't have this hard feelings towards them, but I just don't understand the level of hype around it.

especially the Batman movies, yes. Christian Bale and Tom Hardy are good actors and I believe they showed very good performance, but the concept of the movies or overall execution just didn't click for me.

    Making a metroidvania-style thing in and inspired by . Don't know how far it'll go, but as linus torvalds once said, "This'll just be a small project, not anything big like the other contenders (or something like that)"

    Currently finishing off a HK-style character controller system. It looks jaggedy, but I know that's just because of the lack of any animations, so the next step will be to integrate spritesheets and such. Then level elements and a loading system.

    @mightyspaceman i don't find pixelart pleasing in various cases, however it can be utilised very nicely too. i think is doing an excellent job on that, pixely and yet it's smooth, vibrant and most importantly, alive!

    you can discuss with them your vision, maybe they actually would live up for the challenge 😊

    but whatever route you take, cooperating with your friend or doing your own drawings and improving it in the meantime the most important thing is to have fun in the process! 🙂

    @zachleat option C: there can be a decorative LEGO, but if there is a child in the household, it is fine if they want to dismantle it!
    (maybe forbid 1 or 2 sets to keep bundaries?)
