The governors have given varying reasons for refusing to take part, from the price tag to the fact that the final details of the plan have yet to be worked out. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds ( R) said she saw no need to add money to a program that helps food-insecure youths “when childhood obesity has become an epidemic.” Nebraska...
Texas is one of the few self-sufficient Republican states. (eg. They contribute more than they receive from federal funds.) They’d survive.
That being said, their economy would be fucked because all the US trade agreements suddenly would disappear. Look how badly that affected the UK with Brexit, and then multiply it by 100.
Yeah, I guess survive vs thrive is the point I was trying to make. Texas produces enough food and energy to be self sufficient, but their global economic position would crash.
The Smith team then made its most important and aggressive move by noting that when judges have issued clearly erroneous jury instructions that doom prosecutions, “courts have permitted the government to obtain writs of mandamus.”...
Until AI is smart enough to preside over our courtrooms in a purely unbiased fashion (ha!), we’ll be stuck with shitty humans running our shitty legal systems.
The answer is no, the American political system cannot survive a high percentage of willful contrarianism. This is true because the mechanisms to change the system require support from those bad actors as well, and the popular vote can do very little to fix if.
Project 2025 (and its auxiliary Trump’s “Agenda 47”) are a plan by right-wing extremists and other authoritarians to end America’s multiracial democracy and to replace it with a White Christian nationalist plutocracy....
If you want gun control, the best thing you can do is encourage marginalized communities to get lots of guns. That has always driven gun reform in the past.
I picked it up to test. So far I once got soft locked in a push animation while pushing a box another player was pushing, but otherwise the game seems nice and fun. Also it’s beautifully designed.
Despite its name, the infrastructure used by the “cloud” accounts for more global greenhouse emissions than commercial flights. In 2018, for instance, the 5bn YouTube hits for the viral song Despacito used the same amount of energy it would take to heat 40,000 US homes annually....
It won’t fizzle out; it already has legitimate business use cases. (A lot fewer than the marketing bros want you to believe, but real use cases nonetheless.) Blockchain and Augmented Reality never reached this point, so they fizzled. We’ll see a huge AI winter soon just like we did in the dot com bust in 2000.
There needs to be a fine or something for legislators who write unconstitutional laws. Give ‘em one freebie a year just in case they mess up. But for everything else, there needs to be a consequence to fighting against democracy.
It is adjusted per capita, anything else is pretty meaningless.
The situation doesn’t appear to be improving. In 2023, the SpaceX facility in Brownsville, Texas, for example, reported an injury rate of 5.9 per 100 workers, a notable increase from 4.8 in 2022. Comparatively, the industry average remains significantly lower at 0.8 injuries per 100 workers, according to figures provided by Reuters.
Lying about casualties is standard propaganda in every conflict. Everybody does it (for another comparison, look at the discrepancy between Ukraine and Russia’s published numbers). That’s why third party assessments are important.
It’s been hard to get people into Gaza safely to do accurate analysis however.
Ah I see the issue. You are conflating Artificial General Intelligence with the entire field of Artificial Intelligence. Very common misconception.
AI is a remarkably broad field that includes but is not limited to AGI. AI is a word used for any function that a computer does that approximates intelligence. That could be as simple as pathfinding, flocking, and balancing, or as complex as object recognition, language, and logic.
