Hello poly person here. A year ago I was in a polycule that imploded and I lost several partners. What was left of the part I was still involved in couldn’t absorb the emotional shock so it slowly dissolved over 6 months. Because of how much time was tied up with partners, my friend group was basically the more casual partners. Basically my entire social circle fell out from under me. You are correct, it was distinctly not fun, it has caused me immense damage
I got into Civilization rather late with their fifth entry. I was hesitant because as I get older I need more time to game than I do new titles. Still I picked up six with all DLC during the last sale. I have to say I am liking the changes. It was good to wait because Civ does need its DLCs to feel complete....
6 also has a really bad habit of trying to hide a lot of stuff away from you for idk why, cleaner aesthetics? In 5 almost all the numbers are there out in the open ready to be looked at in-game and it makes approaching everything much easier for me
How does Gaslands compare to Car Wars do you know? I’ve been a long time fan of Car Wars and collect box sets of it but haven’t gotten around to trying Gaslands yet
Projected last night at the Free Palestine Encampment at Cal, Berkeley. Colonial capitalism drives the war machine that bulldozes people from Gaza, to the Congo, to the Philippines. Historically cyberpunk has been explicitly about resisting the dehumanization of hyper capitalism and learning to rebuild human connection during mass social traumas. Steampunk has a lot of roots in the conflict between unchecked industrialization and people fighting for unionization. Neither is just an aesthetic, both are critiques of abusive power through different lenses.
I’m from Idaho. So the first answer is, yes a lot of people there are. School is meant to hit legal requirements sorta while training kids to take over the farming business from their parents. Second answer is south Idaho is basically flat deserty farmland with lots of wind, cattle, and small farming towns. It can feel very Midwest in that sense even if it is pretty far from the official Midwest border
Yes, although sometimes east Washington is also called inland Northwest but is distinctly not part of the mountain west. A lot of the “who is what Northwest” confusion comes from which group a person wants to associate with or other from more. People in Seattle typically call anything east of the Cascades inland Northwest, people in the Palouse area often refer to themselves as Pacific Northwest so naturally that includes all of Washington, Idaho is in a perpetual identity crisis because of the large cultural difference between North and South Idaho. People in South Idaho refer to themselves either as inland Northwest to be more associated with Washington/Oregon (but not be so left leaning as to associate with the pnw) or as Midwest if they’re culturally closer to the farmers and truckers coming out of the actual Midwest.
I’m used to people saying Rockies when talking about the mountains themselves. See other comments about calling the region the Mountain West though, or Mountain States, which are named that because of the Rockies
I write a world/setting and host all the notes for it on my own little website. I’m kinda proud of how it is set up: I write things in Obsidian, push changes to a repo, and then a build server picks everything up to turn into a webpage and update the host server. From random thought to website is just a few minutes
Not during combat, but before combat we stole a party member’s component pouch once in the hopes they’d get killed without it. They had a powerful cloak that was kinda a running curse in the group, whoever had the cloak was destined to be murdered by another party member seeking to claim it
My first game industry job I was pulling hours like that, it capped around 120hr/week for a little bit. I did that for a couple months before burning out for four years. The game never even released 🫠
The dedication to making something you want to be proud of is for real and a lot of people in the game industry are there because they’re passionate not because of the pay. It can be difficult to work past
When did you retire? Agile has been around for at least 20 years, more like 30 if you count scrum being introduced before agile was formally defined. No matter how critical I am of agile it is hardly a fad at this point
In 1969, California State Assemblywoman March Fong Eu took to the steps of the California State Capitol building and smashed a porcelain toilet with a sledgehammer to protest the inequality promoted by the locked stalls.
I was thinking of moving to Germany but I just can’t now. Sweet popcorn? In a theater? Half the reason I even go to theaters is so I can eat enough buttery topping with some popcorn mixed in to feel sick. The absolute madness of putting sugar on popcorn, I’d sooner eat a bowl of unpopped kernels
But for real all you salty/savory popcorn lovers out there: If you haven’t tried it yet put some powdered brewers yeast on your popcorn. That stuff is magical. Goes weirdly well on pizza too
