Some things you only remember about an old home country when you return. In this case, the UK:

  • Toilet paper is too soft & falls apart easily.
  • Softened water makes washing soap off take ages.
  • Everything indoors is a little more moist.
  • Hiya/seeya!
  • Separate hot & cold taps.
  • Levers on toilet cisterns.

@sarajw one thing I could never get used to when I lived there was the asking “are you alright/okay?” to say hello. I would say “yes?? Do I not look alright?”

It’s funny cause we do the same thing in Australia with “how’s it going”. But the way they say it makes me think they are genuinely asking me if I’m okay every time.

@matthiasott links to all of the notes on the site. I read somewhere that pagination is pointless if you have a static site and are not making requests to a database, thought “oh yeah fair point” and put them ALL there. Has a nice side effect of being able to just cmd/ctrl+F to search the titles.

@joel yeah the tricky part is I need my husband and I to be able to access the documentation at any time, from anywhere. I have 100% thought “what if I built my OWN file store + OCR cloud service” before I remember that is actually insane, considering I can barely find the time to fix CSS issues on my own website.

@cory have and love Reader for my RSS and read later stuff. Dunno if I’d trust it with this job. I’ve noticed it slow down and struggle a bit once I have too many documents stored on my account. I regularly clear out read/archived non-highlighted docs for this reason.
